cdi questions

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong
Tried searching here and couldn't find anything.

Has anyone heard about heating up an old cdi to dry it out because of moisture inside?
There's a youtube vid about this. Just wonderong if anyone has ever tried this.

If so does it seem to work?

I have a lot of gpz 305 cdi boxes & only 2 that work.

Also is there any cdi boxes that I could use from any other bikes on the 305?

I am really electrically challenged!

I wouldn't think moisture would be an issue. Most autmotive electronics are potted to prevent that sort of thing. That said, if it's already broken, no harm in trying, right?

As for the CDI, this is a tricky one. Most the CDI bikes I know of are either single cylinder or dual tower coil with a wasted spark.

Ignitech makes an ignition that could be used on the GPZ305: http://www.ignitech.cz/en/vyrobky/dccdip2/dccdip2.htm

Another option might be to adapt a CDI from an early model CX500 (before they swapped over to TCI), but those units are very hard to come by, and I'm not sure if the ignition curves are the same.

You might also try experimenting with a couple GY6 unist. They're pretty cheap, but I think they used a fixed advance. Might lead to hard starting and I would definitely check timing with a strobe to see how close things are when running.
