1975 XLCH Sportster Hardtail Chopper Turn Around The Junk Draw Special

I'm still thinking of having 2 tanks for this one and swap them on and off. I have stock Red White and Blue AMF Decals fro a black tank, and then something similar to this old paint and hand paint depending on the mood.

Well, the Le Pera seat is back. I think i'm going to go to this with a low square sissy/strut instead of the trident. I also welded the rear tank tab tonight.

Tank on the red bike is hideous. ??? Someone thought that looked good?

Yea it was awful. But I don't know what's worse; the way it looked, or the fact someone paid me $75 to take it away.

Well I scored a few things at a local Swap Meet @ Jay Roche's New Tradition Co. For this bike a complete 18" Borrani rear wheel and older Metzler tire, a bitchin Santee vertical hex oil tank ( that may be too tall) and a bitchin Sparkle tank with a hand painted Lorax dr suess theme. Also got a ton of factory take off parts for the Maroon bike I'm working on and another 77 XLH we got since getting the other too.

Here are some pictures of this wreck coming together.

The tank had these stripes and fading repop amf sticker so that got the Easy Off treatment and looks fresh

'
Pretty ironic I guess to have this tank end up on this bike. The image is from the Lorax, the quote is 'Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,Nothing is going to get better. It's not.' which is sort've the whole concept of this build. If I didn't care about fixing the bike, it would still be in the mud on a broken HF bike jack with a fucking doorbell start button, next to a double wide in New Hampshire.

Grips will be grey or black, exhaust is still a ?

Very serendipitous. And coming along nicely too! Real bitchin' bikes once you get 'em all sorted out

Yea they are just like old sewing machines that you get to ride. If you don't want to keep them tuned up, they don't run. That's not the bikes fault.

here's some more updates:

Rear wheel set up I scored last week finally mounted up

Here is my replacement Dew MFG tree set up with my bamboo trees.

I got after the Dew Trees and my Split bar mount on last night

You can see here how bad they were before, I also replaced it with the more triangular top yoke

The 75 Gauge mount fork caps were swapped out for some flat ones

The bars look so much better down and forward. I'll keep my eyes out for a black split clamp to mute the chrome, but this is shaping up

Well Guys, I've been living the High Life now that the winter is over..

I FINALLY got the '72 Front end back together and have that project back on track.

Dr Jekyl and Mr. Hyde are starting to look like bikes.

20170430_004106_zpstdjwzrbv.jpg~original

And I decided on this seat set up and sissy angle after all of this back and forth.

IMG_20170427_224054_zpsewn21yue.jpeg~original

Also just got myself another 19" Borrani Dual Shouldered Front wheel laced to a Mini Drum which I may just add to my vault. Pics of that when I get it in. Giggity

So I finally found some cheap stock length tubes for the Maroon ugly duckling for $60. I'm in the middle of swapping those in and rebuilding that whole front end. By doing so, I scored the GMA Caliper set up from that bike and put the stock Pie Slice on it, not the chop.

I also now have the Stock oil bag, headlight/visor and some other pieces to take the '72 closer to stock

I ordered the Biltwell seat pivot and spring mounts Thursday so I can start fabbing that stuff next week

Scored the sissy bar I've been looking for at a local Jap Bike swap meet last week. I'm finally caught up on some other projects so time to get back at this.

Well Photobucket is shit now so I havent bothered to post.

Updates:
Frame is stripped to nothing
Firestone is going on the 18" Borrani
4 Over tubes came in to get the front end finished
Probably having a few degrees deraked
etc etc etc.

Finally learned then Photobucket work around and decided to catch this thread back up. The motor is out of the frame, the Neck seems Ok, but needs some work over all. I have been collecting parts mostly, and getting things done when I can. The DEW trees are not going to work after all with the 4 over tubes, there is just too much flex. I started shaving a stock triple I had, so I'll settle on that.

10/31/17

Also Tackled my first wheel lace. It was just a refurb of what I had on the chopper when I got it, but now it is pretty decent and will replace the Hog 16" wheel on the swing arm bike.

11/9/2017

So my Low Brow mantaray came in. It is the 6" Wide, but the radius is a little tight on the 4.5x18 Firestone. I think i should be able to open it up enough by pinching it in a little. I will be dropping the frame off to The Easy Co in Worcester in the next few weeks for the De Rake.

1/9/18:

A little update on the JDS Ironhead. I the sketchy neck rake has been fixed and De-raked from 40 degrees to 35 by The Easy Co in Worcester, Ma. I think 5 degrees over stock will give me the stance i'm looking for. They are still working out the David Bird set up and welding in some bungs for that to mount so I can fit the Santee Oil tank.

Happy New Year

1/17/18:

So I got the frame back and done. The Neck was 41 degrees on the original frame, which is so much better at 35. The specs of the roller now are 19"/18" High Shoulder, 35 degree rake, 4" Stretch, 2" Drop.

My 4.5/18 Firestone won't clear my Low Brow fender, so I ordered the 4.00" and hopefully that will solve my problems and I can get the rear end wrapped up.

Cheers!

1/19/18:

Made a deal on a seat from a Buddy made for his pan by Counter Balance Cycles, It's a little tall, but it should be fine with the new sissy bar which needs to be made. I also decided on the GME Coffin Tombstone tank. I'm very happy with the flow down the tank and up the seat.

1/22/18:

Got a 21" Front wheel laced to the Clover disc hub. I really wanted to keep it with Aluminum wheels, but over all this option will give me the bike I'm after and allow me to use the Billet GMA front brake I have already.
