I have taken up making lamps out of spare parts

Don't Call Me Shirley.
Well, last summer I moved to a much smaller house, and motorcycle building became a bit less workable, but I had a bunch of parts leftover that were out of specs so I decided to make stuff out of them. So I started up Motorworks Illuminated to help put me through college.

Nice work! I've been wanting to make some functional art out of old parts for a while. Maybe when I finally finish all my bike projects. As if they ever finish. ::)

If I have one criticism, it's the lamp shades you have used look a bit ordinary compared to the cool looking lamp bases.
 
College looks like it paid off once again. Your parents must be proud ::)

Yeah, I agree with you there about the lamp shades. Been shopping around for fancier ones, but haven't had much luck finding them.
 
Pretty cool. I too have an entire box of parts that I plan to make into lamps. If there is still a market for it by the time I get around to it. Have thought of making your own lamp shades? Maybe some perforated metal like the baffles. Then you could line them with something to diffuse the light.
 
Yeah, I have definitely been thinking of making my own shades, give it a try on the next one. Tin would be cool, might have to shop around a bit for where to get some though. Worse comes to worse, I will go to the big wholesale district in downtown LA and could probably find some nice shades or ideas down there. Can't wait for spring break and some free time.
