Muffler prep

Ok so I've barely had the damn thing a week, but I'd really like to look at the muffler and removing the cat. Is it feasable to simply grind off the muffler after th 10cm-ish ppart where the cat is, bash the cat out and then attach a shiny new muffler without welding etc? Or is there more to it?

you can do it that way but make sure the muffler you get fits the header diameter and is long enough to go past the foot peg to keep up the right pressure etc in the exhaust.
or you can remove the CAT and then have the muffler welded back on for a few bucks at a repair or metalwork shop. the third option is to try to track down someone to make a stainless system, as the stock one rusts fairly easily, its a good idea to repaint the whole stock exhaust with good heat proof paint before the rust starts.

Put the bar end mirrors on and boy what a difference it makes! With the stock mirrors I could not see behind me at all because I am so broad, not a problem at all now! And gave her a wash and its looking fantastic. Next I'm thinking rejet/exhaust and fibreglass tape on the exhaust.

Here is a photo of my ride.

Would a cb175 motor bolt up to the motor mounts?

i don't really appreciate what AVA is doing. They're promoting how much experience their designer has, implying that he had anything at all to do with the bike.

I don't care if stuff is made in china, but i don't like it when people try and pass off it off as American ingenuity.

Makes for better copy than the reality of an off-the-shelf bike with new graphics :)

I have one taking up space in my shop. As I'm in the states it's not going to happen till they are sold here but I do want that tank!

I can't see a CB being a good direction to go. The 'Ace' motor is about as simple to work on as a four stroke can get and it should be extremely reliable (as was the CG).

The Swift is pretty enough as a styling exercise, but I would be surprised if it went into any sort of production. There is nothing in it that you couldn't do yourself. The AVA promoter doesn't seem to have done anything about upgrading the brakes, which would lead to some interesting experiences.

I can't remember the exact quote, but Ben Bostrom said something like "the less horsepower a bike has, the more it can teach you".
Encapsulates the 'Ace' for me!

Hmm exactly how would you upgrade the brakes I wonder?

Try & source a larger disk, better pots & hydraulic resevoir for the front but the rear drum would be a problem. I imagine a rear disk conversion would be "difficult"

some of you may already have seen this ;o)

Also found a German company selling them with the 250 engine already in & TUV approved

And even a 2 seater 250!!

If I cut off the muffler after the cat, dig the cat out... would one of these bolt straight on: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360693493804?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I'm still waiting for my new vernier calipers to arrive!

Chris,

That is exactly the same one i bought, and then bolted onto the pipe.

I found the CAT a pain to get out. Managed to work a flat blade down the side around it.
