Re: Let's go on an adventure... pulling a trailer... 2006 dr650
Got a little more tinkering done on the bike tonight. If I'm going to put a few miles on it in un familiar territory, I figured I need to be able to charge my phone/ gps. I picked up a neat little dual usb charging setup with a built in volt meter so I can keep up with the charging system on the fly. Suzuki was very gracious and installed an unused and keyed 12v power supply up on the bars, so I connected into that. I may eventually have to run it off the battery if I decide to go with an additional headlight or heated grips.
Also got the new tusk inspection cover in which feels much better quality than the oem one. Carb put back together with the new pilot in (both with a light coating of copper anti seize this time)
Also had to "modify" the 650 graphics a bit since its actually a 644cc machine

Ordered a set of street tires. Going to try a shinko 777 on the front and a Dunlop trailsmart out back. It's the only steet combo in the correct sizes that I could find that didn't break the bank. Front is a 90/90-21 and the rear is 120/90-17. All the street tires that I found that are 120/90-17 were listed as front tires, and I didn't want to risk it, though some say it would be fine.
The trailsmart is technically a 90/10 "dual sport " tire, but I dont see them handling anything off-road more than possibly a dirt road. They look like a street tread to me ha.

Picked up a used tank off of a 2013 model bike here fairly locally, but after getting it, I decided it may be to nice, so I threw it up on fee bay and will hopefully fetch enough to cover an oversized plastic tank.
Also bought a used seat concepts seat off of kanticoy as well as a dr350 cush hub to lace up an 18" rear dirt wheel.

A buddy of mine has that Seat Concepts seat on his DR and says it was the best money he ever spent on his bike. He's not wrong, the thing's comfier than my couch and that's saying a lot.

Oh yeah I'm excited to try it. I've been rocking a memory foam modified seat for a while, which was a 2,000,000% upgrade over the stock 2x4 that Suzuki provided, but I've heard nothing but great things about the seat concepts seat.

Decided that the tail end needed cleaned up and the huge semi truck flap had to go, and kiley made fun of my taillight enough that I felt pressured to get rid of it too.
First up, I made up a block off plate out of aluminum for the tail light out of .080" aluminum and gave it a layer of reflective tape. Next up I made a license plate mount/ fender eliminator outta the same aluminum. Hint for you guys that work with aluminum, it's super easy to anneal it with a torch. Use a sutty acetylene flame on the surface of the aluminium, then with a neutral flame, burn it back off, which will get it close to the 700°f annealing temp.
I am going with two of these led lights on the back for a turn signal, running light and brake light combo. Hooked them up to the battery, and man is it ever bright! Should be hard to miss. They will be mounted on the license plate bracket along with a license plate light.
