HollywoodMX's xv920/TR1 Cafe super-dupe!

Really nice wheels! Steering stem is approx 198mm from the underside of the top clamp to the face of the bottom clamp. This is for the ZX forks.

Thanks man for taking the measurement it makes make feel better about the gsxr swap. The guy I'm getting the gsxr stuff has zx stuff too so I was thinking if the gsxr had a short stem like the R1 was for me on my kz, I would switch gears. I had my buddy who has a 07 gsxr 1000 measure his and it was about 8 inches so pretty much the same as the zx. I hope that info helps you in the future too. I got through a 1/4 of your thread so far and noticed there was interest for a gsxr swap.

I made progress today. I sanded the the left pipe to be a be a bit smoother for aesthetic reasons and then did a brushed finish. I then spent an hour getting the right muffler to sit in the exact same place as left before I tackled the right pipe further.

I have to more pieces of pipe to finish the rear exhaust. Its pretty tricky when your making all kinds of funky turns and a lot of mocking things up 10 times then cutting then mocking 10 times, the tack weld. Because I have all this extra room from chopping the frame the right pipe was actually becoming longer than the left pipe so I was in a good place to route things to be equal.

I think I can get the rear pipe as one piece too which is a bot of feat. I was originally thinking I was going to need to make a slip section but I was trying to avoid the clamp for looks reasons.

Tomorrow I should get the rear pipe done. I also have to pick up a WHOLE bunch of modern goodies for transplant in the afternoon, a list that will make most get excited about.

Love your build and I sure do recognize the shifting over to different idea`s during the build, like the wired wheels on yours and many other items....

Here is my first build, not quite finished yet,180 tyre is a shaft drive!

but now i`m building a Yamaha TR1 981cc chain engine into a 1982 SUZUKI GS(X)750 frame with GSXR1000 K3 front for and TL1000 swingarm , GSX1200 Inazuma tank and so on......timeless bike.....

Will post a picture on request, wouldn`t like to disturb your topic

Cool man that tr1 sounds bad ass. Feel free to post the pics. Are you in Australia?

Quick pic of my equal length rear exhaust with a quick weld job. I call it "dances with cobra"... :p 8)

Love that pipe, cutting the frame away seems to not only look good but make the pipe more functional as well.

Exhaust looks sweet. I love building the exhausts, it is very satisfying when you stand back and look at what you have created!

Thanks guys. Ya making the exhaust was super rewarding and probably the most fun I have had moving bikes. I thought I was pretty cool in making that rear design till I seen Johns 2t pipe making in his build cutting out all the sheet metal ... Now my dances with snakes seems trivial in comparison... Lol.

I have a couple salvations though. One equal length pipe on xv's or virago's are not that popular due to the limited options. Second I haven't seen anyone do what I did with the rear. I'm not saying that there aren't people who haven't built even cooler looking custom exhausts for these bikes, just that mine is unique as well as performance enhancing. And third I was trying to take engineering queues from the crazy yzf450 pipe and I think I accomplished that.

Yes this build has taken a few twists. The theme has definitely gone to reducing weight and increasing performance. We will see if I can shave 75 lbs as a target. I bought those wheels which save 3 pounds front and 6 pounds rear from 08 gsxr wheels. Have to weigh the XV wheels to compare further I bought an aluminum rear sprocket and a racing rear Rotor which is 1.5 pounds lighter than stock (it's pretty bad ass looking).

I did get the majority of my modern goodies yesterday but decided to have beers instead of cleaning it all up for pics. :)

Here is a pic of some of the modern stuff I gotz. The R6 mono's are an upgrade for the gsxr and look better and I didn't get the front master because I am looking for something else.

08 GSXR-600 forks and trips.08 GSXR-750 forks and trips.
07+ R6 monoblocks. (I swapped out the inserts already so they should be good to go).
08 GSXR-600 front rotors.08 GSXR-750front rotors.
08 GSXR-600 rear brake and master.08 GSXR-750rear brake and master.
08 GSXR-600 axles, spacers, trip parts,etc.08 GSXR-750axles, spacers, trip parts,etc.
0X R1 mosfet regulator.

Still a few more things to get that this guy didn't have.

These parts will all look stunning on yours, can`t wait!

I`m trying to place a few pics here, but it ain`t that easy when they should be very small sized....
First 2 are Version 1.0 the 3rd is Version 2.0, still busy with it.

The last one is my Suzuha TR1.....GS(X)750E frame......Yamaha TR1 Engine....Suzuki GSX1200AE tank....Wheels from some GSXR, fork too+ many other homemade pieces

By the way.......I`m from Holland/Europe ;)

A little update, the forks are GSXR 750 not 600. I found out through investigation. 750 are black and 600 are that brass color, so what does that mean to me? 750 has a stiffer front spring, which I think is worse in my case because I will be lighter than both the 600 and 750 bikes.

Forks test fitments! I can fit one of the 2 under steering stem locks and get away with only a bearing swap. What's insane is the kz front wheel is almost a direct swap with stock kz spacers and speedo drive. I think a 2-4mm spacer on the right side, custom bushings in the inner fork axle area and call it a day. The brake callipers would just need to be machined down a little to get a proper seat on the rotors, it blew my mind, lol. Had I known that maybe wouldn't have ordered the forged rims.. oh well, the forged rims are going to make the bike faster.. hehe.

Also here is a video of the exhaust!

Looking really nice Hollywood, the exhaust is just so sexy and those forks are great.

I am already thinking of replacing the forks on my XV750 now that I have seen your bike.

HollywoodMx;
A few weeks ago you mentioned a new modern rear shock. Any movement in that area The stock shock must be heavy with the air, and unnecessarily stiff with the amount of crap that can be pulled off the rear of these bikes (not to mention not likely to be two up or covered with panniers?

I'm banking on some form of R1 shock. I keep looking at these (planning a xv920 build) and the stock spring rate is about right and other than being shorter requiring moving the forward mounting point back, they'd be a hell of an upgrade.

I think read someone weighed the XV shock and it was around 15lbs with the adjuster iirc.. That's heavy!

The problem with most modern shocks is that they are too short. The stock xv mono shock is 15" eye to eye which long for today's sport bikes. Although the R1 is a good guess (yes I like my R1 shit) I figured it was best to maintain as much of the shock length as possible to make it more of a match.

So I was on a quest. It would also have to be a bike with similar weight. So I was on the hunt for something newer, remote reservoir, adjustable and had affordable progressive spring swaps if necessary.

When I was looking at wheel/fork swap options I found this shock and by looking at the pic it met all the criteria. It was cheap too (I lucked out) I only had one last thing to do. It looked long but I had the guy measure. Thinking it may be too much to ask for an eye to eye length I asked him to measure the total length. 16"! I'm like "pay dirt!"

It's a 2007 triumph speed triple shock. It was probably my best steal of a purchase for the whole bike. Its 14.75" eye to eye. Which will mean a 1/2" drop. It's workable and I can extend the top mount it if I have to.

The speed triple weighs 460lbs the xv920 is 480lbs. The vx maxes out with 540 lb/in spring with the air. The speed is 700. Based on that it should be good to match the Gsx-r forks.

Here is a pic of the shock and my brembo front master cylinder that came in yesterday. :)
