I emailed these guys a while back and was never able to get any product information. Not sure where they got to, but their English was questionable for Brits.

You mean you tried reaching Beachcomber (TJ)? I have a set of RAM shocks on my XS650 and can tell you they're great shocks.

Anyhow - I'm sure TJ is able to be contacted, and you can read some of his Tales from the Day he's been kind enough to share with us for the last 5 years:

Beachcomber responded to one of my PM's here. We then conversed via email. I asked for price and spec sheets, we had a few more emails back and forth, then I never heard back. I never got the price or spec sheets either.

Not sure when that was but TJ lost his pc and all his contacts to a crash and may have lost yours. Give him another shout.

I'm going to assume that you are the Chris Livengood I mailed after an enquiry. For the avoidance of future doubt and because apparantly my English is below par, I attach VERBATIM, the last mail I sent you.

IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT REPRESENTATION - YOU HAVE BOTH MY PRIVATE AND FORUM MAILING ADDRESSES.

Please note especially the last line on the post ..... after which I had no more contact from you.

Hi Chris,

With your insight / rebuilding / spec'ing etc you are an ideal guy to represent RAM

First let me give you a backgrounder.

The shox / bike side of the business has grown [ past 9 years ] all on it's own due to pressure from our car customers who have seen our own bikes in the workshops over the past 20 years or so.

RAMSHOX are important [ we ARE businessmen ] however it's very laid back and informal.

We have NO requirement for a solus representation - you have your current range + specials and rebuilding we have no interest in interfering with that successful business model and see RAMSHOX complimenting your current work.

Secondly, although I am responsible for the initial venture into bike shox - I have no commercial interest in Realm Engineering or RAMSHOX. The owner [ Adrian Cocking ] is a lifelong friend of some 40 years and since I retired and sold up my own replica car business [ Cobras, Jags, Porsche ] in 2000, I simply help my old pal out with consultancy design and looking after his marketing side.

Two years ago we developed our Classic Twinshock range, specifically for the needs of retro special builders and owners of classics. The range now covers post war classics [ BSA, Norton, Triumph, etc] right through to the Japanese and Italian Classics and modern retro factory bikes [ Guzzi, Triumph, Norton ............ ] In other words - you have an application - we have a shock !

Additionally we have a Competition version featuring Heim style rod end mountings [ where applicable ]. We have supplied shox to Ben Kingham who has been successful for the past 4 seasons winning the B.E.A.R.S. series outright twice [ on target for a 3rd ] with his almost stock BMW K100.

I will speak with AC this weekend and finalise our dealer pricing and let you have it asap.

The shox are serious quality - being based on car shox they are very strong, but with the aircraft alloy components - light. Here in the UK and EU we compete directly against Wilbers - who are 20% more expensive retail.

Shock supply is in the main off the shelf, or at worst [ for a special ] - 7 days turnaround.

Over to you.............

Bonjour Peter,

Yes very interested - I believe that the French / Italian / Belgian / Dutch markets are prime targets for specialised shox.

I used to take the French "Cafe Racer" mags until last year. The bikes featured in the pages are just right for a service like ours.

I will phone you over the weekend to discuss - when's a good time ?

Just a ketchup here ............ peeps who know me - know that I AM the original computer dummy and for that reason our websites [ www.realmengineering.com. and www.ramshox.com. ] are both out of date and outdated.

However we realise that a good website is the best tool for promoting our products and to that end AC has secured the services of professional web building peeps to completely revamp, modernise and bring the contents up to date. Both sites will be going live [ hopefully ] in the next 3-4 weeks.

That means not only the RAMSHOX range - which covers virtually ALL classic and Monoshock bikes - but now also includes the RAM -MOTO "Scream" range of BMW R1100S based Cafe Racers and all the associated accessories.

Any potential agent would be validated to represent these products as well.

Thanks, TJ. No offense was intended. Did you finalize the dealer pricing?

Hey Chris,

no offence taken !!!! Guess I was waiting for you and you were waiting for me .............. ::)

We have taken the interim to take stock of what we can supply [ shox and other stuff ] and break down the dealer enquiries we have received into shox and "other stuff".

We are still in the dialogue stage with yourself. We were also awaiting some final price increases to come through before finalising 2016 prices - that said only ONE product has a price increase [ 1st in 4 years ].

I WILL get you some relevant prices through next week where we have definitive prices in - I'll PM you.

And finally, you will have read that our website is [ are ] being dragged into the 21st century. I saw the final draft today and we still want some minor tweaks - but nearly there.

So, I'm taking it you are still interested in representing RAM products ?

Just a headsup to Chris, Peter and several others .................... the new website IS finally nearing completion. I finalised the text yesterday and forwarded it to the guys building the site.

We have taken the down time to finalise dealer / agent deals and will forward this info via PM as soon as the site is due to go live [ 2 weeks ? ].

At the same time I will be sending off snail mail press release packs to various speciality magazines around the World - Including "Cafe Racer" US and France. There will also be PR's going off to the German "Custombike" and "BMW Motorrad" mags. Thanx to Volkmar and Guenter for sorting out the German translation ! ;D

To coincide with the launch of the new site - we have productionised our new "Stealth" all Black shocker. Available in Twinshox and Monoshock versions with 1.9" and 2.1/4" ID spring options.

Jeeeez, if these computer peeps were in my line of business - they'd be out of business !!!!

Having pulled the trigger on the website update back in the Summer, we have just [ 1st Decdember ] been shown [ offline ] the new site they created.

Just a flavour [ remember this is basically a mock up - fuck-up ?], I had a heading "Two Wheels", as a catchall for the bike side of the site [ you can guess what 4 wheels stood for ! ]

So, the picture they chose to head the page was - yes, you guessed it - a picture of two bike wheels !!!! ::)

Not only did they have my original [ OK, outdated ] site as a guide for the content, but I spent a further 2 weeks mocking up all the updated text and pictures.

So sincere apologies to all interested parties, you can be assured no one is more pissed off with these "experts" than me.

TWO WHEELS

I'm sure most of you will be aware of my personal situation ( health wise ) over the past couple of years. This in turn has meant that we have not put our full efforts behind marketing RAM products. Shox and other components have however continued to sell and be developed.

The good news is that we have a very interested ( and experienced ) contact in the US with whom we have entered into negotiations.

This is at an early stage, but looks very promising.

Updates as and when - TJ

Sitrep - - preliminary discussions are positive and we are now moving on to things like stock levels , pricing, etc.

The good news is that we have held the prices [ from 2015 ! ] - additionally UK tax [ VAT 20% ] will NOT be charged so even after shipping to the US the retail price will be no more than UK retails.

The interested party ALREADY deals in bespoke and off the shelf shox and will initially be responsible for sales in the Continental USA.

More updates as and when

you mentioned further up you had been dealing with someone in Australia, any details? i'm needing new shocks for the Vmax and it'd be nice to be able to support someone other than one of the big importers
cheers, spotty

they don't do ones for the Vmax, though I have heard they are a helpful bunch and could prob work out something that will fit and function

my current plan is a set of XJR1200 ones, way better than stock and they're actually Ohlins at a much lower cost
