It acid etches the surface to make it stick better than standard primer. Duplicolor make it as well as Rustoleum I think. I use it on shiny surfaces after sanding etc. then if you need to you can use a sandable primer over that to smooth things out etc and it will stick better.

Good to know- I haven't painted many shiny surfaces before, and never over chrome, so I'm glad I read this before just hitting it with the normal stuff. Gracias Maritime-

As he sits today. It's been fun to see such a transformation over the course of summer and fall... and be able to ride for most of it too. One of these days I'll have to completely tear him down and do it all over proper-like, but until then...

Hey mate, I love what you have done with your bike! It's looking good.
I am about to finish my new seat the same way. I have made a sheet metal base and a ply wood base to go over that with the intention of fixing the leather I'm using to the ply with a staple gun. Is that how you fixed your leather? or do you know of a better trick? Any feed back would help.
Cheers.

I used industrial strength velcro to attach the leather to the pan. It's great as the adhesive is super strong on both the leather as well as the sheet, and the velco aspect allows you to adjust tensions better in the end. Once I had it all on initially, there were all sorts of wrinkles, pulls, creases, loose spots... but the velcro allowed be to adjust it properly. Plus the leather will get pinched between the pan and the frame rail once it's mounted, so you don't need to worry about it too much.

What are you using for your padding? I've heard that using more than one type of foam in your padding will help make it more comfy- and I wish now that I had heeded that advice. I used a camp pad that's pretty cush, but using only that one type of padding makes it a little stiff.

Hey mate,
I plan on going in to a specialised foam store (Clark rubber) and getting them to recommend the best way to cushion it wilst still keeping the slim line look. the dude I got my leather off sugested using two foams and said they should only charge me around $30 for the foams, so thats the plan their. That velcro sounds like a good way to attach the leather.
Not sure what you mean by rear sets? if you mean taking a passanger, I plan on keeping the rear pegs on the pass Rego, but never taking a passanger.

I used a good contact adhesive to stick my cover to the pan on my sr250. Holds hella strong

yeah it's the one. Luckily the guy that brought it was just gonna put it on club rego so no need for a garage RWC. It wouldn't have passed the way it was I don't think

Little Pete as he sits today... quite unhappy about the weather.

Also, a few shots of my compact "shop space"...

I like your expandable roof! =) Seriously good work so far, loving that seat work you did by the way, it's an amazing first go.

Did you have to re-jet using that filter? I really want to get rid of my air box but not sure about the best way to go about it.

Thanks

Love the build by the way.

shit, I don't even remember. I think it was just up a size each- but I can't recall numbers. I have it written down somewhere- I'll take a look for ya.

One day winter will be over, and the fear of a broken leg will melt away with the snow.

I know this is an old post but I'm working on an sr250 and I'm trying to figure out how to install this same speedo on mine. Can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be great

Re: '81 SR250 "soft build" - Little Pete

The cable should unscrew from the stock unit and screw into the new unit. They need to be the same ratio and style though. There is a hub off the front wheel that measures the speed.
