Warning Not a Cafe-Brat-tracker- Resto Mod of 98 Magna

Looks like the same yellow I used on the FZR. Looking good, man.

Thanks. Duplicolor Chrome Yellow. 5.99 rattle can, should be great after the decals and a heavy coats of Spraymax 2K should look pretty good.

How many coats on the 2K? I think I went too thin on my XL, as it isn't as durable as I expected.

I do like 4-5 easy if not more. I keep going and going until it is super thick, timing is important though, I got a couple of small runs on the CX, can't have that on the Magna. I put a coat of enamel on the tank for now to get the Decals placed, then I will wet sand it a week from now and put the 2K to it. I should have the fenders ready by then and I had to fill 2 little divots that showed up on one side cover. So I have one more day of paint, then it all cures, then the clear. I will get the front end together while I wait for paint to cure.

Looks great man! May I inquire about the fin polishing on the jugs?

It looks as if you polished them, then taped them off to paint.

Any particular reason you didn't just sand the paint off the fins after painting? Curious, because it's something I'm about to undertake.

Keep up the good work!

I did it that way because the fins were rounded and I used a belt sander. If I sanded after I ran the risk of ruining the paint in the process. I wanted a nice square profile on the fins. Once I got them sanded and polish I spent the few minutes masking them to not have to sand them again. It was really the least amount of work to get a nice clean job, remove the tape before baking, I baked the paint on the first one with the tape in place and it was a bit messy taking it off.

So moving along and had a bit of a setback. I got the fenders in paint, they looked awesome on Monday, then I checked them last night and got a reaction in the paint on the front that caused a wrinkling up one side, which blows cause it will set me back on the clear coat by a week. Oh well on we go. Forgot the pics, I'll post em later.

Still can't do picks as I don't have the cord for the phone here. Well I got the paint on the fender sorted. light sanding, re-coat, no more wrinkles. Then I screwed up the decal on one side of the tank. FFS! anyway I believe Sonreir has hooked me up with a set I can get by end of this week so I will still be able to clear this weekend, I am going to be ready with a home made IR oven and all so fingers crossed it all goes to plan. Just need to not rush the process. Blacked out the headlight bucket, front signals and ordered balck mirrors to keep the theme going of blacked out with some chrome and the Bright ass yellow. Should look really good when all done.

Well we decided on a Stripe to break up the sea of yellow on the tank. I think I like it. Once I get the OK from the owner I'll do the same on tail and front fender. Sonreir came through with replacement decals. So will be able to clear the whole thing in a week I hope.

Digging the stripe, does well to break up the in-your-faceness of the yellow! haha

So as soon as the replacement tank decals arrive from Sonrier, hopefully today or tomorrow. This will all get hit with 2K clear and some minor assembly and polish work and it will be done.

And then there was clear. 1 whole can of 2K for the tank. Had a minor mishap with the side covers so I will have to do those again but the rest is good to go back on when it is fully cured.

Well after falling off the table. Not fun. Here she sits just needing some minor things to be 100%. On small ding in the tank I have to repair.

Outside of the ding (that I cannot see) and your sore ass, the bike looks awesome.

LOL thanks man. I pulled all my back, butt and calf muscles trying to stop it hitting the floor and the ding is right behind the signal in the 3rd pic, it caused it and is now moved to not do it again. I filled the very small dent with paint and will buff it out to hopefully not be noticed. Need to sort why the left signal won't work and I hope it isn't the socket. I need to check the bulb.

Well the chip repair failed so we are here now. Starting from bare metal again.

Almost finished stripe when I had to use the second can of yellow to touch up when I did it was missing the center part of the nozzle and giant splatters went all over it. Not impressed. More work again.
