"Tangerine Dream" / Glemseck - KZ750

Great job on the tank!

Thanx Rider - I'll have it in primer next week. I'll also look at how I'm going to fabricate the "tank strap". Obviously it will be a dummy - just for cosmetics - ie BS !! I'm undecided on the colourways. I guess it ought to be traditional - Norton Silver or similar. Maybe with a bit of Satin Black / Red pin striping.

And then they misplaced it between Customs and Parcelfarce [ carriers ] ::)

I spent 3 hours of my life yesterday chasing it up and eventually tracked it down. being delivered today allegedly. ???

Im glad to see that this side of the pond is not the only place they screw up deliveries...I have had more delivery mishaps in that past few years than in my entire life. You would think they were paid poorly and didn't give a shit !

i think i can confidently predict you will get each others parcels....in about 2 weeks time

Yet another fuck up !!!! ::)The driver "couldn't locate my address", that's despite having 6 deliveries this week and 2 via the same carriers [ Parcelfarce ]. They are guaranteeing delivery today [ ??? ] - that's now 7 days since the customs duty was paid and the parcel released to them for delivery and the third day I've waited in for delivery.

My local mail carrier is sending back some tire irons I ordered saying I refused the item...damage was reported...
I have not laid eyes on this package. Could get interesting.

Hoo fuckin ray. Finally arrived, together with a couple of parts I had drop shipped to the seller - a KZ750 exhaust cam [ going on inlet side ] in as new condition [ $15 ] and some 1/16" NPT weld bungs for the Weber manifold [ $6 ].
First POC setup ............ "now you see it ...... now you don't" - just love the "stealthy" approach ! ;)

Oh yes, the tie wraps will be replaced with something more suitable when the time comes. ::)

yup no one asks why i still have side covers on my bike lol ;) ;)

Yep CX ... we must keep some things under wraps ! The Mk 2 bullet is on the bench - still deciding Turbo or Eaton blower. That - I won't be able to hide !!! That's probably a year and lots of favours being called in away - but it WILL get done. 8)

Fit the turbo, if you don't have a lathe, all you have to do is show the cylinder head to Dave of FBM and he'll set you up with some headers, a link pipe and a plenum. I am sure you'll work out the fuel pump and how to sort out those small niggles along the way.

Nice stealthy bottle placement TJ! that will surprise some folks when you hit the button. Going to hide the button for it too? make a fake light or horn switch?

Greg - did you track down suitable suck thro' turbo ? When I did the original POC last year, I worked out my 2 > 1 high level system was spot on for the turbo. The Eaton is an issue for me from the point of all the specialised machine work / fab I'd need, so it will be turbo ..... as much as I'd love to use the Eaton. :(

MT - yep the whole thing's built around the surprise factor ! ;D. I already have the relevant switches and activator's. All the relevant solenoids, hoses etc. will also be hidden under the "tank". The only visual giveaway will be the two foggers sticking out the top of the Weber manifold, but you'd have to look hard. ;)

I'll be seeing a guy next week who can hopefully quote me something less than the national debt to fab the under frame fuel cell.

There's a couple out there, but unfortunately no GT15. As my Turbo TR1 will only be used on the dragstrip, I will just suck it and see how long it really lasts, if you don't overfuel it, it should work out a few seasons in my case and maybe by then, someone, somewhere will have a carbon seal setup for the GT15.

That being said, you have heaps of space, just go blowthrough with the stock CV-carbs. It's not that hard - shoot me an email and I get you some literature/links to start from and help you get into it. The only two additional things you'll need are a fuel pump (can be sourced from a big-displacement car directly from the breakers and an adjustable fuel-pressure regulator, where I'd advise you to get a proper Malpassi as these are the de-facto standard on carb'ed turbo builds and you'll easily find some setup advice should you need it.)

It would also allow you to go down the intercooler route in the long run to help you keep the charge cool(-er) and thereby allow you to run more boost.

Greg,

That was plan B .... except using the Weber - as I have a spare manifold . I know that Lotus used blow through [ twin Del Ortos ]. You're right - I do have a bunch of space and I've already done a POC mock up with the Weber and short manifold. OR could use the NOS manifold and Weber - WITH the turbo !`

Will email you some details after the weekend - many thanx for your ongoing help.

Note to self - after spraying Flake make sure gun is completely stripped and cleaned !

Anyway 30 minutes later the spot gun is cleaned and working as it should.

Here's the idea for the alternative [ ie CHEAP ] tank strap using stainless engineer's strip and rubber strip. Haven't finalised the fitting of the overcentre clips - but they are essentially cosmetic.

Final prep of the tank and first coat of primer surfacer. Surface is pretty good and will only require final sanding and very minimal filling.

There's no point doing the seat yet as the final fit and fettle can only be done on the rolling chassis - ditto fairing.

Bollox ....... after 20 years of faithful service my compressor decided to give up the ghost ! However, I have an Aldi special [ brand new ] which a pal got me 3 years ago. I'll be on the lookout for a cheap single phase Hydrovane.

I'll get the swap over done today and second coat of primer / filler and then into a satin black guide coat. That said the actual "shape" is OK, it's mainly the two halves where the mould was split [vertically ]. I could take the easy way as the "join" is under the tank strap ..... but I'd know it was there ! ;) You can just about see it on the White prepped pic.

Big thank go out to RJA [ DTT/UK] who has stepped up to make my belly fuel cell. ;D I have just ordered the filler neck and cap - I have the various AN weld bungs on the shelf. Probably be 6-8 weeks due to his existing tank making workload, but I'm in no rush and just thankful someone has made the offer.

What do we think then guys ................. ;D

I'm struggling with going down the trad route for the paint - ie Silver / 50's colours. Actually Silver with Red frame looks a bit wrong to me - Silver and Black - yes.

Here's my thoughts - the bike needs to be "me", it's also going to be a bit stealthy [ NOS hidden ] and "evil".

Satin Black "tins" with Post Office Red [ frame colour ] highlights / grafix ?? One thought is "Manx" style pinstriping in Red on the satin Black. However, the half fairing might be a bit much in solid satin Black - again a bit more of the Red to break it up. All inputs welcome. 8)

I've now seen a couple of Red / Satin Black colourways - and I'm pretty certain that's the way I'll go. I have a can of satin Black celly sat in my shed from a previous job - bonnet { hood } on my pal's Lotus Cortina.

The tank will be getting it's final prep in the next couple of days, so I'm going to shoot it Satin Black and see what I see ! It will definitely need some contrasting [ Red ] graffix / pinstriping. The seat's not an issue, but the 1/2 fairing and belly pan need some thought. 8)

FINAL REMEDIAL PREP - just waiting for final primer coat - then satin BLACK !
