1978 CB550K. Scenario: Ignition off, battery disconnected from bike, black lead should ring to ground, but should the red lead ring to ground? I am tying to troubleshoot battery draining issue.

Connection to the positive terminal of the battery should split into three directions.

The thickest wire should connect to the solenoid and powers the starter motor when the solenoid is engaged.

There should be another wire (red/white) that connects to the output from the rectifier.

The last wire, solid red, goes to the ignition switch.

It's not uncommon for the last two wires to be a single wire from the battery or solenoid and then they split after the first terminal.

At no point should any red wires be connected to ground.
