First of hi everybody im new to the forum and I started by build, mostly tear down, last week. I picked up a 81 Kz 440 for $400 and i started riping her apart im planing on doing a mono shock on the back end and its looking like im going to need to extend the swing arm. heres my pics so far.

I found tools before i found the camara, so I had already removed the seat, headlight and a few other things.

Well thats pretty much where im at so far, i got the shock in the mail today and from the looks im going to have to extend the swing arm to make it work.
Did Big-D ever finish his build http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=9064.30 i was hoping to see his swing arm in better detail. I didnt want to add to a post that hasnt been touched in a long wile.

Looks like a start anyways. Any plans for the engine? is it running? Keep posting and I'll keep up with the unhelpfull beer fueled comments

motors is good
i need some new jets for the carbs, im probly going to hand it off to a buddy to tune and get as much power from it as i can.
from what iv heard as is my max crusing speed is about 80, i just want it strong but reasise its only a 440

Finaly got a chance to do come cutting, what i decided is im going to have the body of a bobber and the seating possion of a cafe. were hoping to start on the rear sets soon

Things are slow going cause im waiting on my buddy to get more argon for his welder.
I took off the swing arm and im getting ready to cut the opening for the shock to go in.

Well a long time has gone by and its still not done. But I have alot of free time on my hands now so the bike is keeping me busy.
I threw out the plan for the mono shock, I'l come back to that one day on a different bike.
I decided for ease of build to make it a hard tail, this forum helped alot with research so thanks alot for all yalls builds, so on to what iv done.

I had to scrounge another swing arm, a buddy was working on it and lost it, I found one from a CB350 that fits.

The swing arm fit but the tire was about 3 inches from my hind end, not the way i wanted to loose a few pounds. So I stretched it 4 inches and there will be a small finder there when I'm done.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I stretched it by using a 8 inch pipe that was just larger than the pipe on the swing arm. I slid, hammered, the pipe on with 2 inches of overlap on the front and rear. I saw it done this way on a few builds and it seamed to be the correct way to do it.

I'm using a paint bucket as a seat for now cause its about the right height.

And heres a rough mock up of how I plan to have the back end. I'm taking it over to a cousins house thursday of friday and weld it all together.

Well thats it for now and heres hopping it doesn't take another year to post any progress from it.

Ya its welded and after a year I have a rolling frame again.

Now I have the motor apart, I think some grindings may have gotten in the motor so might as well tear it down.

It always takes longer than you think :p

The 440s are nice engines, my son is building a brat out of one.

Good luck with your build.

Got it all apart and started painting the frame.

Decided it would be a heck of alot easier to have it in the air so grabbed some wire.

Put her back together so she rolls again.

The seat hasn't been stapled back together yet, so don't hold that against me.
Tomorrow the motor goes back in, so heres hoping that not too much paint gets damaged.

Well shes back in one piece so a big part of it is over. I have a good bit of paint to touch up from putting the motor back in. With that said I'm very happy with haw shes coming along.
