It all Started here:: My SkyTeam Ace story

mikeyw64

Been Around the Block
Ok some of you may have seen all this over on FB but others may not.

Walked into my mates bikeshop start of Sept and saw an ACE in the flesh for the first time.

"Oooh I want" says I

"Trade deal for you" says my mate so away I go to research & pontificate.

So here I am thanks to you guys on here.

Order placed yesterday for qty 1 ACE125 ready fitted with sports exhaust, carb rejetted & emissions stuff removed. £1572 OTR against a list price of £1799+OTR charges for the standard bike (skyteams official price in the UK)

Have ordered an Acewell 4554CP to replace the OEM instruments plus a single clock mounting bracket from OO Racing.

Also put a shopping list together for OO Racing. Waiting to order until they get the heavier weight rear shocks in, due in the next 10 days, before placing order.

Spoke to them today very helpful and know their Aces by the sounds of it (also had a chat about my Bird).

Shopping List (am I going OTT??)

Re: It all Started here:: Waiting for my ACE to arrive

Well she's arrived a little later than expected due to delays with other drop offs & pickups but she's settling in with her sisters :)

Bad news is she wont fit in the lift so will have to start work on her downstairs, ah well.

You will be busy!

It looks like you've got half a bike there already.

Re: It all Started here:: Waiting for my ACE to arrive

Did a bit of tinkering today.

Removed the original clocks & rear mudguard, disconnected the side stand switch so the engine can run on the stand.

Cut the plug off the end of the original clocks & soldered onto the Acewell loom.

Run the Acewell loom in . Wired the Oil pressure light to the sidestand switch to give a visual warning.

Test fitted the combined stop/tail/indicators

Everythings loose at the moment as will wait to start tywarapping & tidying until I've removed the airbox & battery tray & relocated the batetry/extended the wires.

Thinking cap on at the moment around the tail as a standard legal UK number plate (9" x 7") will slightly obscure the indicators.

2 options
1) the stems are long enough to push outwards but would need either a second nut or a piece of tube
2) fit a slightly illegal 8" x 6" number plate

Love those pommie number plates!

They look like a barn door on the 'Ace', although yours will (perhaps) stop people asking "what kind of bike is it?".

Hope you'll be riding soon,

Technically silver on black should only be used on vehicles first used before 1973. Legal size is 9"x7" (as per the show plate fitted) and are black on yellow.

When I get my reg number I'll probably fit a slightly illegal 8"x6" or possibly a 7" x 5"

Having a numberplate that doesn't meet the regs is a £60 but no points but providing its not stupidly small and the font is standard then most coppers tend to turn a blind eye

Also worth noting that isn't actually my vehicle registration number, just a dummy one I've had made up
