Obviously it's subjective, and the only opinion that matters is your own in the end.
If you're not set on keeping the paint scheme 100% to the 400, which were pretty plain, I think a lot of the vintage CB colours are rad. Flake can be a good way to break up solid colours. You could always use tank decals from the 360/450/750's too.
Here's a few of my favourite paint jobs, might spark some interest.
Also check out this page, plenty o' inspiration to be had.

Took the end pipe to get a bracket welded today and dropped off the seat for upholstery. Should be done in a couple days. Also got my ttr400 alternator cover and bar end mirrors.
Got all the wiring done thanks to Spark Moto's AWESOME customer service. Nobody has ever been that patient with my dumbass haha. Seat pan will be done being upholstered tomorrow morning. Spent about 2 hours this morning at the DMV trying to get the bike registered. Earliest appointment for a CHP inspection is Jan 22 So all I need to do now is pick a color to paint it!
Thanks for all the love for the seat! That was made by Mitch from Mitch's Stitches about a mile from my house. I love finding the small local places to do business with. I came in and told him I needed a seat for my cafe and the first thing he asks is "will you bring it by when it's done so I can see it?!" Hell yeah Mitch! Spoke to Kevin from ttr400 and he's going to mail the rearsets after xmas so it doesn't take a chance of getting "lost" in the mail. Really nice guy.
Hope you all had a great holiday! Finally took the bike out for a little test ride through the neighborhood. Clutch feels pretty slippy so I'll probably change it with the first oil change. Took grey and black primer and messed around with the tank and seat. Not the final paint job but just wanted to see how it looked.
