Mr. E's CB750 (The Black and Tan) But wait, theres MORE! Barber preperations..

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) Seat is back and looks good

So after sitting out the coldest days of the winter closer to a heat source than my bike, we finally got back to finishing up the last few things before a test flight. Some people have been telling me horror stories about starting an engine that's been dormant for a long time without adjusting tension on the cam chain. So we did, and also adjusted the valves. Finally we borrowed a carbuerator syncing set and went to work on that.

Then last saturday we rolled it on out the door for the test flight! I put a few oz of sea foam engine cleaner in the oil and gas tank, then took it out to fill it up with gas. It sputtered a little in the few miles of riding, but I think it will straighten out with some riding.

A few more pics to follow soon. Got a tail light from noschoolchoppers.com. and I still need to figure out a proper mirror...

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) Seat is back and looks good

Very nice looking bike. Very straight forward with terrific attention to the details, the red spokes and the tank emblem are a very cool touch. I think the clean down to business look of the bike is perfect, and it compliments the nature of the bike itself. The seat looks awesome with the white tank and fender too. All and all a bike you should be proud to own. A nice tie-in to the color scheme and year of the bike might be the number 75 on the side case, it would fill up some of the large white area on the bike and give a nod to the vintage of the ride. Kinda like this:

Love the color scheme. The paint and seat just go so well together. Very classy!

Not a huge fan of the red spokes but that's just me... and who am I to tell you what looks good? :)

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) Seat is back and looks good

That bike is gorgeous! Don’t change a thing! It oozes class and has a certain sophistication that putting any graphics of any kind on it would only ruin. The only thing that bike needs is a rider! Now it would complete the class if the rider had a matching brown leather jacket, a cream ¾ lid, and matching brown leather goggles!

Great Job Mr.E………She is a true class act!

Man, what a great looking bike. Love the cream and brown color combo. That tank badge look SICK against that cream tank. Great work.

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) Seat is back and looks good

CLassy is the right term fro that bike. I love the hints of red through the spokes, carbs shock bottoms. That is a fine lookin ride. I like the brown seat too.

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) Seat is back and looks good

Thanks everyone! I like the idea for the number, but I may consider it on the rear fender instead. Im also toying with a badge design using the honda wing, then filled with the irish flag colors. Would that be sacrilege? As for the brown jacket and helmet? Ill have to work on that as money permits, cause I spent my 50 dollar budget on bike parts haha. Sometime soon I hope to move this on over to the show and shine, after a few more tweaks are done. Again, thanks everyone who has tuned in for this project!

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) Seat is back and looks good

And on the subject of black & tans: I had one last night for a break in the guinness river that was flowing my way. Also a tid about the seat: I see most everyone here loves the seat color, and that detail is probably what I got the most flak about around my town when id show it to people... glayou guys have great taste unlike the redneck wankers in my slice of the earth! Most don't even know what a cafe racer is, its just "one of them torture rack wanna be bikes".....

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) 95% DONE!

Just ran across this build. You're bike is sexy as shit! Well, not shit, more like sexy as a tribe of indigenous women mud clad riding giraffes looking a man to procreate with!

The color palette is spot-on!

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) 95% DONE!

The black and tan is a drink, yeah, but it was named after loyalist military occupation police in Ireland, during the 1916 revolution, wasn't it? I dunno, I've heard of "black and tans" in a different context. As such, to the Irish, they're sort of like ... "Brown-shirts" to most other Europeans, to the extent that the "Tsaoeetsch" (sp?) of Ireland was one of the only world leaders to issue condolences on the death of Adolf Hitler, such was the hate for the English and hence, loyalists. Just, don't make the mistake of taking your bike out on a St. Paddy's day parade until I figure out whether it's true! Ha ha. I mean, you might run into a fanatic, taking you for an orange-man, who'd raise the ire of the Ire' in the crowd and then people would bash you with all of the green stuff, paint your bike green, etc. It's not that far fetched you know, I can remember my grandmother encouraging me to wear orange to school on Paddy's day....
-Sigh.

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) 95% DONE!

Haha, yup im aware of the connection to the socialist/fascist history with the police force and the violent events, but I chose my bikes name for the drink. Probably my favorite way to have a beer. And yeah, I know better than to order one in a "real" irish pub. Not the warmest reception...

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) 95% DONE!

But wait!!! There's MORE!!!

since finishing the bike this spring and riding it all summer, I've been taking note of improvements to be made, and getting ready to do them. I first noticed the weight of the bike was a little excessive for its purpose, and a wobble developed in the front end. Cyl #3 is running a little lean, and the valves need adjusting, the motor needs touched up, I want to polish the valve cover, drill the rotor, shotgun the rear hub, and trim down the controls. And barber is next week, so here we go!

Oh no! I can't tide it to work today!

Damn, this thing is sexy!!!!!

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) 95% DONE!

First thing to do is fix the brake and clutch levers. Lacking the funds to buy fancy expensive ones, these will have to do for now.

CameraZOOM-20110920082748.jpg

So I cut the balls off the ends, roughly sanded them down to look like this:

CameraZOOM-20110924130808.jpg

And then smoothed out, sketched some hole locations, and drilled them.

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) 95% DONE!

When we get to Barber we can get a case of Yeunglings Black and Tan in a bottle, its good, had quite a few in WV last year! hope all goes well and she is ready to ride by next week!

Re: Mr. E's caffeinating of a CB750 (The Black and Tan) 95% DONE!

When drilling its good to organize the different size drills in the order used. This helps avoid having the right hole in the wrong spot :) yes, I've done it before!

CameraZOOM-20110924144642.jpg

After drilling, cleaned up with scotch brite and back to the sandpaper for smoothing.

CameraZOOM-20110924164014.jpg

Now polished and done!
