You, my good man, are correct.

First test ride done.

Carbs so clogged I had to run fully choked!!! ;D

I found she will shift into 1st 2nd and 3rd gears smoothly. And didn't fog the neighborhood doing it.

WIN. Now to de-fuck ALL them carbs and get a real ride.

Re: A $450, 400 four - The Black Knight..RUNS AND RIDES.

So, I just want to say this to anyone new to this vintage motorcycle game.

Yes I borrowed a battery from Rachels bike and I installed 4 new fuses and a gallon of lawn mower gas. I already had in my garage

Otherwise, It took me a grand total of $0 dollars and around 3 hours of my time invested to get her Running AND Riding.

NOW its time to dig in. Only doing Safety and Reliability stuff.

Then Im gonna ride the shit out of her "FUGLY" for the rest of the summer to help ensure there is nothing catastrophic wrong with her.

So, When the time comes. I wont be afraid to go ahead and drop a few $$$ on cosmetic stuff.

Not the other way around.

Yes it may take you longer than 3 hours. But its time well spent and experience gained. I myself, expected this to take longer and more work.

No, I dont believe Im an expert on this stuff. Its just I do have some experience. And want you to have a good experience also.

Well thanks for stopping in.
I may be able start tearing into the carbs in the morning.
Find out what I need to get ordered.
Not to mention learn how they work...LOL ::)
Really though. These carbs dont look like any of that carbs on any of the bikes I have.

Oh and sorry Brad Squidhunter. I have been a little busy and haven't kept up on your project.

I’ve been out of town. Just got back home. I’ll spend some time with the family tomorrow, and be back in the garage Sunday.

A friend of mine is building the same bike you have there. He’s working on a dirt bike carb set up, but I haven’t heard anything out of him.

They aren’t hard carbs to work on, there’s just 4 of them. The little parts add up quick.

Once I see what kind of shape the floats are in I will better know which kit to get.

But looking at this one now...

Found it would save me about $30 over piecing this together myself.

Re: A $450, 400 four - The Black Knight..RUNS AND RIDES.

One thing I've learned on the GoldWing carb nightmares - use only Honda float valves (they usually have built-in inlet screens, too). There are often niche suppliers for carbs (Randakk for old GoldWings and many old Hondas) that source Viton o-rings and special seals. A few dollars extra spent there are wise.

Reach out to swan on here. He knows what you have to put oem honda and what is ok to go aftermarket. Hes restored like 10 400F over the years. He has a couple good threads on here too.
