79 Honda XR500 carb question

Coast to Coast
79 Honda XR 500 carb air cutoff valve is shot. New bike to me never run yet as carb was a disaster. It's all clean and sparkling now, can I test run the bike with out the cutoff valve? Plug it, bypass it or something? Would be nice to fiddle with it while I wait for the part.(or eliminate it all together.) Thanks

I plugged the air cut on my XL350. You can block the air from the outside that supplies the valve, usually an o-ring there I just punched out a piece of fuel line and covered the hole

Fuel line...good idea! Thanks, after I posted it found a bit of info, apparently it's just for deacceleration....sounds right?

The air cut is to prevent backfiring on deceleration, but a faulty valve can create a lean running condition.
