Been Around the Block
so two and a half years ago my 1975 cl360 refused to idle properly. i had cleaned out the carbs and done what little mechanical tinkering i was capable of but it wasn't happening. i took it to mechanic who worked on old bikes (amazingly rare in seattle for some reason) and he did get it to idle... unfortunately that's all it would do. under load it would just roll over puke and die. he spent a couple weeks tinkering with it, points, timing, carb kit, i dunno what all but nothing worked. a friend of a friend is a motorcycle mechanic and he offered to have a look at it. so he picked it up and started tinkering with it. occasionally i'd check in and see how it was going but i didn't want to push him because he was doing it for free. Eventually he gave up and i gave up and i reconciled myself to never riding my bike again.
a couple months ago i bought a running 1975 cb360 for $400 bucks off craigslist. it's only idling on one cylinder but other than that it's in pretty good shape. so i'm at my mechanic buddy's place working on the cb and we compare the carbs with the cl. turns out the frickin' cl is MISSING A JET. the first mechanic did a carb rebuild and totally neglected to put one of the jets back in. so my friend actually makes a new jet for me and bam i rode my cl360 again for the first time in more than two years.
it didn't have a name before so i'm dubbing it lazarus.
plan on changing out the tail light and turn signals, removing the rear fender, cutting down the front fender, removing the gauges, maybe a new headlight, probably a new seat. for starters. i don't know much about bikes, this will be my first build. maybe with the help of my mechanic buddy i can eventually go a little further, tearing the bike apart and painting the frame and such.
it's getting cold out and i don't have a garage to work in so this is probably going to be a slow project but i'm looking forward to it.
anyway, here's lazarus:
