Brake pads too large?

I just picked up some brake pads for my front calliper on my GS550. When I installed them, there wasn't enough clearance to physically fit the calliper over the rotor. I had the master cylinder cap off the first try and then the bleeder screw loose on the second try. No luck. (calliper piston was oppened as far as possible)

So I combined one of the older pads (less wore down) with one of the newer pads and was able to get the piston back on the rotor. However, the pads are constantly rubbing on the rotor without pulling the brake lever.... I was planning on taking it out everday for a short ride and hoping that woul eventually wear the pads down propperly without overheating the rotor. Is there a better soloution to this asside from buying another set of pads?

Any suggestions are appreciated.
