Re: z750 twin....brat.... (r1 usd front end mockin-it-up)

what brand paint did you use on the engine? thanks

btw what exactly needs to be done to swap the front end?

can you add some pics of the parts

its not even mounted.......
its mocked up with some wire,
when i did test it (when mounted properly with the old front end) it was really good, brighter than the original.

im tossing around the thoughts of using a different headlight altogether.....bought a sick rusted up 7 inch the other day

we'll see what happens

as for brand im pretty sure its vht.....but ill double check for you tommorro.

will definately go into more detail when i come up with the solutions.....
as far as what has/had to be done is
1) new custom axle (done)
2) new custom wheel spacers (done)
3)new custom stem (in progress)
4)new custom brake discs

for the discs im going to get a nice set of machined (by a mate) custom rotor carriers and use some 320mm rotors off a new set, then get them re-riveted to the custom carrier.

im sure there are much easier conversions to do but hey, im learning alot really quickly when doing things the hard way....

marla, heres a photo of the stem i intend on using vs the r1 bottom triple

Man your bike would look super cool with a nice patina rusted headlight and get an only rusted rear fender and cut it short... Then you would have the ultimate vintage/patina/rusted parts mixed with the clean black frame and new shiny usd forks and brakes/wheels.. Just a thought :)

Re: z750 twin....brat.... (r1 usd front end mockin-it-up)

awesome stuff. gonna keep watching this (I have a kz650 with a r1 front end that I don't know what to do with)

thanks for the pics and info

if you find out about the paint let me know. I've seen vht paints but not those colors

Re: z750 twin....brat.... (r1 usd front end mockin-it-up)

so you're going to remove the r1 stem from the bottom and press on a gpz stem ? (why not use the kz stem then?)

cant you just use the whole r1 triple and find a set of bearings that will fit ?

(stuff is over my head but i'm reading)

cant use r1 stem as its too short
kz stem i did end up using
with
tapered conversion

Re: z750 twin....brat.... (NEW PROGRESS / NEW PICS) 80 %

Damn you, sinbad. You're making my KZ look like crap again. Stop it. ;-)

Also, the new headlight is better. Looking good. Let me know if you have any front tire to header clearance problems with the lower stance and the headers pivoted under the frame like that. Mine are routed similarly, and I worry about possible contact during hard bumps hit mid-turn, if I don't stiffen up that spongy front end.

i was just thinking how good your one is coming along!!! looks great dude...

i am a little worried about the headers contacting the ground mid corner etc.....
also i am a little worried about the clearance between the front wheel and the frame under full compression....
i will check all this tommorro.....(fingers crossed)

Re: z750 twin....brat.... (NEW PROGRESS / NEW PICS) 80 %

Hell ya Sinbad!

Its looking really great. The front wheel shouldn't have any issues... Exhaust shouldn't either but its hard to tell how far the headers stick out..

I have been trying to scrape my headers, so I know its possible on my xs, but I cant. Granted, my bike does sit a bit taller.

Im really diggin the basic headlight you put on, and those forks sure come with some nice clip ons!

Re: z750 twin....brat.... (NEW PROGRESS / NEW PICS) 80 %

thanks tron...
i checked clearances today looks all good!
plenty of lean angle too!

heres a sneaky teaser of the revised dash led thingy...

That's good to hear. I'm hoping with my narrow muffler spacing, I'll see similar clearances, despite the somewhat low appearance.

Re: z750 twin....brat.... (NEW PROGRESS / NEW PICS) 80 %

so ive been doing some sneaky work on the bike lately.
its getting closer and closer, i can feel it.

last week i cut and soldered up a venhill clutch cable, (nice action much smoother)
although i thought the clutch feel would be alot lighter.....i guess these new heavy duty clutch springs are just that- "heavy duty"
i cant wait to give it a fistful of clutch.....

i also cut a new chain to length and installed....

started toying with the idea of the steering damper tucked up underneath the tank...
a fork mount has been ordered...

i also fixed up the riding position.....by installing some rear sets....
not only does it look about 10 times better than the mid controls.....
it feel about 20 times more comfortable.

heres some shots of the progress.....
