1989 Suzuki GSX750 Katana...

Koestum

Coast to Coast
Hey all, it's been a long time since my last post so "Hi" again. I've built several 70's Honda CB's into cafe bikes... but I have a line on an early Suzuki GSX750 Katana for a decent price but I can't find any examples online of what I'd want to do with it... what with the shaped tank that fits the weird frame and high-rise seat angle :(

If anyone has any links to great looking custom Katanas from 89-96 I'd be grateful and thanks.

Mitch

Re: Early 90's Suzuki Katana... Can they look good?

Are you trying to make it look like a more traditional cafe? Cuz I think they can look pretty cool as street fighters, but the tank/frame/seat combo would make it a pain to do the flat tank/seat line of a cafe style bike.

Re: Early 90's Suzuki Katana... Can they look good?

Ya, the lines are like a roller coaster so not a cafe or brat... just something that looks good and I'm not a fan of the seat being so high in the air... I think it just looks pointless.

This is the best one I've found so far but still not great:

And then there's this pretty sweet rendering (but a different year range):

Just looking for more ideas.

If you're gonna try to bring the seat down that'll take some work (chop the subframe, etc) and it'll end up making issues with the tank lining up with the seat. The big issue in my mind is the gap left between the frame and the tank when the fairings are taken off. If you could make a panel they fits there to make the painted bits flow better that might help.
Here's mine. Not anything special, but I like her. Also the 750 has a different tail light/rear section that looks a bit more funky, just a heads up.

Here are a couple pics of mine. Maer fairings and a coat of paint are the only changes from stock.

Nice bikes guys. A buddy of mine went half on the bike with me after work today and did jedi mind negotiating stuff on the seller to get his price down from $450 to $200 in about 2 minutes... that's the whole bike that has no spark with a clean title plus the new dynatek module the guy had purchased for it. So for $100 each we plan to get it going and maybe flip it. I'll post pics soon but basically look just like cyclefreaks black bike above but not quite in as good as clean and a couple small cracks in the fairing.

And "Hey" Cyclefreak, great to see you again here... here's your bike from a couple years ago at Barber :D

[instagram][/instagram]Okay, here's the 1989 Suzuki GSX750 Katana we picked up yesterday. We do have the windshield, mirrors, title, etc... complete bike for $200. We're charging a new battery now for tomorrow but have verified all the lights, signals, horn and gauge lights work properly.

Those are some of my favorite pics of "Little Wing".

$200!?!?

Get it running and it's a $3000 bike.

Re: Early 90's Suzuki Katana... Can they look good?

$3k!
The best 89 Katana in the world isn't worth three grand.

I was thinking maybe $1200'ish if I get it going.

That was a typo... $2000 is what I meant.

That said, the 80s sport bikes are rising in value.
