Seat Upholsterer in Los Angeles

Hi there,

So I'm working on a budget Honda CB160. I welded a new seat pan from the original and I'm now looking to get it upholstered, but all the shops I'm taking it to, are looking at around $350 to do the foam and upholstering. I don't mind doing the foam myself, but that only knocks off very little on the costs. I was wondering if anyone might have a good lead on a reasonable priced upholsterer in the Los Angeles area...

Shelby from Nellybelle Handbags got his start doing upholstery and I know he sometimes still takes on work. He's in Oregon as well. I've attached a pic of the seat he did for me a few years ago.

Maybe try small towns nearby? I found a guy that does boats, cars, trucks, restaurants, and a few bike seats in the hills of East Tennessee. I did the foam with carpet padding shaped with an electric carving knife ($10 eBay). Spray contact cement to hold the layers. I also provided vinyl purchased online. He sewed and attached it for $100.

Pick up a HD machine on CL and DIY.

Im just an Elevator mechanic. If I can, anyone can do it.

My wife sews. But I was determined to teach myself AND she was determined NOT to help me.

She made me read the instruction manual. I watched a couple "how to" vids.

I set up the machine myself and practiced a couple minutes on scraps.

First practice try I made this...



First attempt at a seat, I made this (easy) one. In about an hour.





Second was more challenging. And more cussing. But I got it done in a couple hours...
