Rubber "grommets" in cooling fins.

I have seen them before and it looks as though my bikes previous owner randomly shoved a few rubber grommets between the cooling fins of my GN400. Does anyone know if there is a legit reason for this or is it all asthetics?

Maybe to help get rid of vibrations that make the fins ring at certain RPMS? I dunno other than that.

frogman is right, they're stock on a lot of bikes to prevent the cooling fins from ringing.

They're stock on my GS750-I read somewhere it can cause some pretty annoying vibration if you take them out.

Yep, what they said. I pulled them out on my xs400 and noticed no difference. I do wear earplugs though, and every bike's different.
