1974 CB550 Brafobber?... Yet another Honda

Better, but not perfect.

I didn't like the angle on the bottom, so I wanted to cut it straight.

And then made clearance for it to sit over top of the "shock" eyes.

Thanks. I've been looking over your build thread. Definitely looking good!

Sure thing. Thanks, mine has been a long project. Time is killing me.....don't have much of it.

That stance is sick. That may be my next on my never ending list.

Got a box from McMaster. Aluminum for making the upholstery pan, 1018 steel for welding seat supports, marine velcro for sticking the upholstery pan to the seat once it's complete.

Designed a template for the seat pan with SolidWorks...

I want to do black material (leather? vinyl?) with white stitching. like this, except I won't be covering the hump.

Cut some clearance to get the tire sucked up into the seat a bit. Still needs more trimming.

that pretty much gets things up to now.

I hear that. I'm trying to tie up the big things before I run out of time.

Thanks! I can't wait to ride it. Then I'm sure I will be begging to get off of it. 8) The rear end is essentially a hard-tail now.

I like this too........................where did you get the fork tubes?

Neat idea with the rear shock, was that a standard shock?

Thanks man in advance.

I got the fork tubes from cycle exchange. I think they were about $150 for the pair. Definitely had to get rid of the rusty ones. The old headlight mounting ears on had let in so much water over the years on mine that they looked unsafe.

The rear shocks are Boge units that I picked up many years ago to replace the rusted stock chrome shocks. They were fairly inexpensive.

kewl man...........thanks.

Yea, I'm a little concerned with mine too.

Did you have to exchange your old ones for the new ones, although I'm not sure they'd want my old ones.

Looking forward to some more of your build.

Nope, no core exchange was needed.

Looking forward to some more of your build.

Thanks! Should be some more action this weekend.

Didn't get too much time to work on the project this weekend. But I did get some more shaping done to the seat.

Got the ends swept up a little bit.

Got her back on her "feet" for the stance shot.

I need a shortened kickstand. I don't trust my welding skills enough yet to make a "structural" weld like that.

I prefer the Hubless/wheeless version from page 1.

I see the Gators are compressed to non existence. Thumbs Up!

Very Nice Build.

damn she sits pretty! really like the idea with the rear end.

Thanks man. Can't take credit for the back though. I'd seen it on a couple builds and really liked the way it looked.

Not a big update but I primed and painted the seat. Also redid the tank and side covers after some more bondo to fix the body lines.

Time to start thinking of some graphic ideas on the tank. Something small and black to break up the white.

Lets make an upholstery pan! The pictures are pretty explanatory.

Design in solid works

Cut it out and bend it up

Now I just need to send it off for upholstery.

Nice pan, good mock up on the drafting program.

Quick question on your rear cover. Is there enough room for clearance of the tire under full compresesion of the shocks if you bottom out to not catch rear seat? I'd hate to see something happen down the road. I had something similar and almost overlooked it when I was putting a cross brace in mine.

Thanks man. The tire clearance is definitely close. The pictures show the suspension at full compression, as the rear is now essentially a hard tail. The only thing the tire would contact would be the tail which is ABS so it would rub a bit and rub some paint off but that's about it.

I did some boring shit lately that I didn't even bother documenting. Things like wiring, mounting the gauge and getting the seat mounted. I can take pics of the finished product if anyone is really interested.

But I did get her back together and fired her up.

First attempt and she fired up on the 5th kick. Something wrong with the cable routing though and the idle is super high.

Remove tank and find out the push cable has come undone a little and is jamming the throttle open a little. Fix the issue and try again.
