Dominator Scrambler

As many others, I have entered a long and exciting journey towards building my very own scrambler.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a mint condition 98-dommie, with 22000km on the clock, newly serviced engine, new sprockets, brakes and chain, aswell as new tires.

Some may say it is a bad idea to kill a bike in perfect condition, I say "not".

For the last couple of weeks I have been planning, tinkering and been getting more and more excited about the build.

I have completed some things, but there is still a lot left.

I have almost every needed part, just waiting for speedometer and taillights.

Tank in the pictures is shit ugly, and is a priority to re-paint asap.

Here are some progress photos:

Things to do moving forward:

-Paint the tank
-Swap the front rim to an 18x2,15" Excel rim
-Twinduro or SM tires (undecided)
-Get a battery tray made
-Wiring
-Modify sub-frame (during winter season)
-Paint rear rim black
-Finish last bits of welding on exhaust
-Powdercoat the frame (after modifications, most likely during winter)
-Front and rear fenders/mudguards
-Paint Front forks

As you can see, I am planning to do a lot this winter. This is mostly because winters in Norway are harsh on motorcycles, and we have a lot of downtime after exams. Which makes for a perfect time to do the long-term tasks.

As of now, I just want to get it on the road for some late-summer fun!

Welcome to the forum bud. I dig the paint on that tank, are you gonna strip it back and repaint?

It came like this from Ebay. The paintjob is very poorly done, so yeah! For sure stripping the paint of it :)

Thanks for the welcome, I am looking forward to sharing my progress with you guys!

Made some progress today!

Talked to my neighbour, which is a steel worker. He is currently making my battery-tray! Which is going under the saddle.

Stripped all the paint from the tank, and have started to plan the tank paint job.

The bike is starting to look fly!

Another update, as this day was very productive:

My cousin helped me draw out a simplified wiring diagram to get the bike started! Adding the lights and stuff tomorrow!

My father has a friend that knows how to TIG-weld, so we went to visit, and ended up with a modified tank:

My father helping out, as I am terrible at precision. Atleast for now

We had to relocate the fuel line aswell, seeing it was colliding with the frame! Sadly I do not have any pictures at hand.

Tomorrows tasks:
-Get the bike started!
-Plan the rear seat hoop

First proper mockup

Some of the wiring before i cut away the frame.

Then I decided to get rid of the original sub-frame, and weld a new one!

As for the project moving forward, I am planning to paint the frame black during the christmas holiday.

Then it is re-assembly, getting a new front wheel (18"), tuning the carb, building sidepanels (similar to BrapOne: http://atelier-kbuilt.fr/brap-one/ ), and deciding on a color scheme.

Dude this thing is looking cool as fuck, I love this style! Great choices front to back, and really like that muffler. You decide on a colour scheme yet?

yeah i love it, started to look awesome. the change to the frame is a good idea! looks much better aesthetically

Posting updates next week! with pictures.

Currently the frame is finished, painted, and I have started the assembly. Starting to look fresh

Here are some pictures!

I assembled the bike today! Or almost.

Things left until driving:
- Battery box and wiring
- Create seat
- Tune Carburettor
- Custom exhaust

Taking quite some time this build. I am currently studying, which means I am only home at my familys about once a month...

I estimate it to be done around sometime during April.

Cheers!

Minor details. Onward and upward!

Yesterday I finished wiring, and have successfully made a new loom!
I decided to remove any excess things from the system, such as: Sidestand killswitch, neutral switch, clutch switch, carb heater.

Today I am making a seatpan, and getting ready to make a custom seat. When that is done, all i need to do is to get a headlight, and a LED blinker relay. With all that done, I should be on the road within the coming week.

Will post pictures as soon as I am done!

Last update! Put it out for sale here in Norway!

I got worn out by the build, and I noticed I lost interest when it comes to tuning the carb... The air/fuel mixture is way off, it idles perfectly, but chokes when I give it some gas.

Had a blast doing this project, learned extremely much, and would do it all over again.

But as for my next project, I am going to try to get my hands on a Datsun 240/260/280z (Has been my dream for as long as I can remember).
