In refrence to the drama that occurred in this thread, I totally feel the vibe about the Benjie's parts. I am working on my first build, and I am using a BCR tank, seat, and frame hoop. At first I felt like I was going to be some bad ass bike builder person. Then, I compared my project to projects here, and I realized I am pretty much a watered down bike builder. In the end, I am not doing anything that hasn't been done, or that requires a great development of knowledge or skill. Yeah, I am learning a little. Yeah, I will have a bad ass (in my opinion) bike that I will be ridiculously proud of when its all done. But, I can tell from the fab work here that there are people who have learned more, and their bikes are MORE bad ass because it took more to build them, and they have really earned the right to be proud of their bikes and have them nominated here. My hats are off to all of you guys that actually do this.

personally i think Benjie's products he turns out are pretty awesome, i try to buy from dime city and rock city on there as much as i can whenever i can not make it myself

It REALLY had nothing to do with who's using who's parts... The doods a dick. Thats all...

I am far from the level of some of the builders on DTT. And am flattered that a few have grouped me with some of the people that I admire and respect. Not only as builders, but as people as well.

Thank you.

I love that bike

Lou

oh yeah, but I've realized in the course of my project that some bikes are more bolt together than fab, like mine (mostly bolt togdther). my BCR parts sure are nicely constructed though!

Bit shocked by the comments, and the fact that the whole point of DTT and the bike of the month was missed

BOTM is a great chance to recognise and heap praise on builds that we all agree, have been a work of passion, and look great !!!

I am happy just to watch these great bikes unfold, 8)
Looking at all these great builds, I keep getting my eyes opened to real skill and craftsmanship ;D

Very well said. I agree 100%.

Well guys........ I don't beat my own bodywork, do my own paint (on the big parts), and I sure as hell don't forge my own crank and conrods. Sometimes I even enlist the help of friends for various kinds of mechanical work, especially if it is something I haven't done before. When I am finished with each project it is my goal for each bike to look like it just came fresh from the factory and not the shed in back of my house. I take it as a compliment when people think my bikes are stock. It doesn't matter to me if someone makes everything or buys everything........ a good looking bike can be made or bought. I think this is what this thread should be about, the best looking bike..... nominated by a member..... and seconded by another within the rules of the site. I don't like to see people trashed who don't know the rules and, also, I don't like it when someone new mouths off because he made a mistake. Perhaps the moderator could step in and warn the new guy that he is out of line so we could keep the "dick sucker", "SOB", "dumbass" and "asshole" comments to a minimum. Now I am not talking about anyone specificly, just in general, so don't everyone try and get into a pissing contest with me. I like the people on here, but that doesn't mean that we have to agree on everything. Also, if anyone wants to kick my ass....... I have posted a pic of my killer guard dog who is at my beck and call..... so BEWARE......hehehehehe.

Oh yes, I almost forgot....... he is available for dog of the month if anyone would care to nominate him. His build story is posted on www.doggieporn.com under the title of "Nookie of the North" also subtitled as "Hounds Gettin' Tail"   ......

You guys are a bunch of drama queens :)

For the record - we don't have 'rules' around here. I've tried to maintain some basic guidelines, but at the end of the day, I trust our great members (yup - all of you) to sort shit like this out.

That being said, having a 'start-to-finish' build thread on a bike that you started after becoming a member or whatever is NOT some steadfast prerequisite for being considered for BOTM.

Neither by the way is hammering out your own tanks and seats, welding, doing your own paint etc. If that were the case I'm not sure ANY of our past BOTM winners would ever have been nominated.

I've said it before, and it bears repeating, the general idea is that the BOTM contest is a pretty wide-open affair, and it comes down to a legitimate nomination, seconding, and ultimately the voting determines the winner.

This is a loose, easy going place and this BOTM contest should be just as casual and fun. Let's not burden it with more rules or guidelines than we need. If you like one of our member's bikes, by all means, nominate it. If they accept and another member seconds it, it's in the contest.

If you disagree with a nomination that is legitimately made, accepted and seconded, then don't vote for it. That simple.

If you feel a nomination has been made in error, as a joke, as a mockery etc., then let me or tWistedWheelz know.

And if any of you disagree with me, there's a Dog of the Month up there who looks like he's digesting his last victim who you can take it up with. He's the complaint department.

Man, I thought my eyes were messed up again when I first looked at this pic...... I had better lay off the Absinthe before reading this thread. Cool pic...... way cool bike.

Yep - I wrote those, and you'll note nowhere does it say the bike has to have been 'built' start to finish (or at all) and documented on DTT, nor does it say the member has to have been around for years, or whether the bike was hand-built or store-bought.

I've tried to be clear about it from the beginning. The easiest rule to enforce is NO rule. Democracy will determine the BOTM winner.

Nominations are closed for May. I'll tally up which nominees are complete and set up a voting thread later tonight.

Better late than never.

I honestly hope that BOTM will always be about celebrating the creativity and expression of our member’s passion for all things café. Not everyone can hand build their bikes from scratch and not all scratch builds best represent the spirit of bike building and learning. I’ve seen some outstanding examples of bikes build entirely from parts sourced through vendors like Benjie or Dime City. It would be a real shame to see BOTM escalate to a battle of the CNC machines or professional builders. Do we really need anymore Paul Teutuls in the bike business?
