CB350 cafe, a mix of old school & new

Nice to see you yesterday buddy - let me know where to drop off all this stuff for plating, I'm in.

Been working on how to mount the tach/speedo. In the meantime the weather warmed up earlier in the week so it was time for my not so favorite job...

Thanks

Not much to update. Been tinkering with wiring, and mocked up the tach/speedo mount. Scott has the triple tree w/clamp for welding. Hope to have it back in a week or so.

Here's a pic of the initial layout.

Wondering what the plans are for the clutch worm drive area...
Im going to be in the same situation on an offset sprocket,
that places it right in the way clutch mechanisms.

The original cable mechanism isn't going to work. So, plans are to go with a hydraulic clutch. Not 100% sure yet how the slave cylinder will be mounted (or on which side & what type of clutch arrangement to use). Open to suggestions. Let me know what you're thinking.

One of the clutch covers carved out for clearance (don't want to go with a smaller sprocket to keep the ratio). Frame will need some massaging and reinforcement to clear the chain (pretty tight right now without any slack).

Wiring, still needs work

Initially was going to use the pass switch on the right control to toggle the strobes (LED turn signals). After some thought and riding my CB1100; I'll have the switch back to stock, toggling the high beams.

I would just spend the money on a M-Unit motogadget. It saved me days or weeks worth of wiring and probably lots of extra wire as well.

Been a long time since I've worked on this, but back on it. Not a whole lot to update, but here's where it's at.

Swingarm shaft was cut down (was about an 1 1/2" too long)

Took some 2 1/2" exhaust pipe, put in the press and slowly pushed into into an oval. 5 1/2" resonators welded in.

1 3/8" pipe leaving the engine, transitioning into 1 1/2", to the 2 1/2" oval. Left down pipe has a slip fit just before the 2 1/2"

Frame had been sitting so long rust had set in. Bead blasted it again... Modified the frame for the chain and primed it.

I'll share updates as they happen. Thanks for your patience & interest.

Getting closer to making the slave cylinder work.

Here's the puzzle pieces.

After Scott TIG welded them together.

Had to modify it to clear the stator cover. Still need to drill & tap for the slave mount.

Thanks

Put a seal in the slave, bled it, and checked the throw. Need to buy a lottery ticket! Throw is really close to stock. I'll fab up the push rod once the engine is together and I can take measurements.

Some more details on the slave (sorry, didn't take any pictures).
Normally there's a connecal spring behind the piston (fluid side) which exerts outward, pushing the piston out of the bore. This wasn't going to work since I needed a bit of clearance between the pushrod and the clutch lifter. Ended up machining a hole in the piston so the stock CB350 ball would fit. Also installed the connecal spring on the outward side, so it pushes piston back in the bore.

Started in on the engine. Progress will be slow. Recleaned the cases, cylinder & head.

After lapping the valves and assembly. "leak checked" with alcohol for about an hour.

I check it about every 10-15 minutes.
Not the best pic, but no leak through :D

Yesterday it was windy, but the temps were warm enough to paint outside.
Decide to go with a darker gray color.
