Removing Rear Wheel on Shaft Drive

Been Around the Block
Hey guys, could use some help removing my rear wheel on my shaft driven '83 Kawi 750LTD. I may be a newb at rebuilding bikes in the grand scheme of things, but I'm not this big of a newb.

What's been done - taken off brake caliper and removed cotter pin. Now I'm stuck.

Tried for the life of me to loosen up the nut but it is not budging. I have a good idea of what to do from there but I can't get this thing to move at all. Am I missing something? Bonehead mistakes are not out of the question.

Thanks!

Here are two pics if that helps.

Looks like the axle nut is on way too tight, are you missing a spacer?
The hole in the axle should be in line with the slots in the castle nut.

First time trying to take it off. Yeah, after looking at a diagram I'd say it's missing something. I'll send a pic, you tell me what you think.

Looks as though somethings amiss. You'll need a fair amount of leverage to get the nut off.
