What does everyone do for their "real" job?

I am a New Product Development Technician for a company the builds items for the powersports industry, in addition to being an OEM supplier our own brands include Dowco, Fastrax, Iron Rider, and Willie and Max. Basically I build and design prototypes and take them toward production status.

I used to design and build manufacturing tooling. Now I'm dissabled from a spinal injury.

I'm finishing off a university degree and in the process of joining the police force, looking to be a bit higher up than your average joe on the beat I guess.

At the moment I work as a fill-in for a local chemist, but am looking for more work so I can have a bit of cash to mess around with.

On the aircraft industry note, I wanted to be a fighter pilot when I was in late highschool but I think I never would have qualified for the maths side of it which is apparently fairly challenging. Still looking at getting my licence someday, and if I hit the big time in the financial side of things (think national lottery) I'm seriously considering living in a zepplin. That'd be the life.

Now I'm dissabled from a spinal injury.
Crud, sorry to hear that 4eyes.

Cheers - boingk

I'm a cot jockey. In the name you'll know it as, I'm a paramedic.

10 years in the field in a high call volume rural environment. I just got certified as a certified flight medic and a critical care transport specialist. I'm shooting for doing air medical transport (flight medic). It's always been my dream.

10 years of being overworked and underpaid. But I wouldve quit a long time ago if I didn't give me some gratification and make me feel purposeful. Can't imagine doing anything else.

This thread rocks. Its cool to hear of jobs that never really cross the mind. Sad about the spinal injury for sure...hang in there brother!

Tool & Die Designer/Machinist for a plastics company. I get to design everything I make, which is kind of nice.

Purchasing/buying. Started in the private sector for 10 years and now I am a civil servant and a buyer for the city of Moncton. Just got my C.P.P. which they tell me is a big deal, but I didn't get raise.

Cheers,

I am the District Sales Manager for Guitar Center Stores in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi & Arkansas.

Chef...I think I'm the first one here in the hospitality industry...

Where are you working? I recently finished 2 years at Kendall College here in Chicago, but Im kinda going through a phase where Im not really sure cooking is for me long term. Id like to have a wife someday, and it seems for every happily married chef, I can show you 20 that have crumbling marriages. That being said, I love being on the line, its an intense but fun existence..

Cool thread.
Current status: I run a small farm and offer light fab and welding on the side. Pay is shit, although I get to shovel a bunch. Hours suck. Just the other night a freak lightning/hail storm with strong winds hit at three am. I found myself in open pasture rounding up spooked horses (think bronco busting rodeo clown in torrential rain and lightning). No days off and if it breaks I get to fix it. Most equipment is old, so most of the time if something fails we get to make the parts.
Love it and can’t imagine doing anything else. Farming= priceless.
