What does everyone do for their "real" job?

Holy shit everyone is involved with planes. Right on! Weird youve all flocked here.

I myself is a stone mason' Custom fun stuff for the overpaid

first off, mike adams if you ever in austin tx hit me up. i would invite you over to tattoo me. second, i restore classic Volkswagen as a living, well... i did until i moved to austin. we are in the middle of trying to reopen the buiz here. im about to take a job as a mechanic for a property management company here to pay the bills for awhile. when i say bills i mean rent, food, and wheeled toys. i restore cars with my parents. when we move down id like to start doing more radical cars, lowered, chopped, things like that but still do classic shit... heres what we do www.revolks.com

Plant maintenance. Which is cool. I'm a one man band so no one (meaning supervisors) knows exactly what I do. Unless they give me a specific project. So I get to make a lot parts for the bike and the sidecar. I call it unknown sponsorship.

BS degree in Mechanical but I work as a Petroleum Engineer.

I really want to get in to machining somehow.

Up until I moved to Sonora, CA...
I did hand painted lettering, pin-striping and custom painting. Most of the custom work was at Mike Taylor Designs in Redwood city, CA. We painted for the likes of Ron Simms, Dudley Perkins and other small shops in the bay area. Also did a bunch of helmets. I personally have done a lot of paint work for A&A racing (Ray, at A&A built the bikes that Kenny Roberts raced when he was flat tracking).

A small sample of my work can be seen here...

After doing that for 20+ years...I still paint, but now it's "on the side". My full time job these days is as a bowling mechanic/pro shop operator at Black Oak Casino in Tuolumne, CA. It's a living...and it's even fun sometimes!

I teach English for Academic Purposes to foreign students. They will soon begin programs at University of Ontario Institute of Technology.

Fun, creative, and lots of time off ;D Please do not judge my writing skills here though, I need a break from the job sometimes...

Im a warehouse and equipment supervisor for a large commercial construction company. Its 50% boring as shit, and 50% filthy. Not the worst job ever though, I get a company truck...

4 years as a aviation electronics tech. had enough, going back to school for telecommunications.
I'm a telecommunications man too. Supporting mostly layer 2 and 3 but I'd like to get more into specializing in network security.

Are you in Canada?

I'm an aircraft mechanic. Throughout my career I've bounced around in civil engineering/construction, home inspection and aircraft maintenance. Lost my "retirement" job at United Airlines due to the events of 9/11 and our poor global economy. Now working at a pretty much bottom of the barrel regional airline, but happy to be employed ;).

I'm a jack of all trades in telecom. Started in commercial in '88, now working as a gubment contractor for the last 10 years. It's nice to see other comm folks here.

I work at FedEx Office (Kinkos) and sell Insurance for AFLAC...I am finishing my bachelors in Marketing in two weeks so who knows then just gotta leave the service industry...dumb people are killing me.

Its not exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up, but it puts a lil change in my pocket, and it won't be where I stay forever; I am a brand rep for the Carrier Brand HVACR equipment and parts. Not too bad of a gig, it could be worse! I don't enjoy selling a HVACR brand, but I have good relationships with a ton of people that I have found interesting that I would have otherwise never knew!

Other than that I am an entrepreneur, and will take advantage of any market that I can create sales for. I have sold everything from SCUBA equipment to HVACR parts. I am open to any markets, sales is just something I am naturally good at!

I worked on that kind of stuff for almost 8 yrs. (UK Plant & CBL.)
Changing valve blocks sucks on skid steer loaders ( so does just about everything else suck on them, not designed to be worked on)
Changing cab/driver compartment on on all terrain AWD forklift after it got turned upside down was pretty 'interesting'.
Does teach you that things don't need to be perfect though, hit it ith a bigger hammer then weld it back together ;D ;D

I feel inadequate!
I'm a publicist/booking agent for a management firm/record label.
I don't get paid the big bucks but it's better than the retail shit I've been doing.
Just getting by until I head out for film school...

I basically schedule gigs and appearances for our artists throughout the country.

...and holy hell, Mike! What kind of a deal do I get if I roadtrip up to Detroit?
That's a sincere question.

Ya, it can be interesting... I had to pul one of the JCBs out of 7' deep mud once. Took 2 full size excavators to get it out, and when we did, it basically tore everything off of the machine below the cab... good times.

I like it that many of you are also dealing with aircraft, and the "recession" it has forced us to work through. I am in the business jet industry at Cessna in Wichita, Ks. Where are all of you working?
