77 Honda CB550 engine is smoking .

Started my bike up today and noticed that the engine was kind of smoking a bit . Checked the oil it was fine . Not sure what it could be from?

That's not healthy, it should quit.

Is the smoke blueish or black? If not black then do a leak down test.

Smoke coming from where?

It seemed like it was barley coming from the area in which the shifter is . It was very faint to say the least

Shifter seal gone. One drip on exhaust is enough to give a heart skip of something bigger. Wipe area clean. Cleanest area will be where oil comes from. Go for ride. Park on paper. Go inside and saver the ride. Check an hour later with a white paper towel touch up. If lucky you'll get an opportunity l mark from the shifter seal. Easy to replace.
