Neither of my bikes are good for more than an hour of riding due to riding position and the vibration. I need something that i can take on trips more than 30 miles. I had been given the wing 10 years ago by a man who was moving to Florida and didnt want to take it with him. I dug it out of the shed and tore in to the wing.

pics fresh out of the shed

The solenoid is shot, and I only have spark on the 2 rear jugs. I think I found the problem in the wiring to solve the spark issue but i need a new solenoid but aside fro that its in good shape. As of now I have it stripped down to a roller and engine. thats probably all Ill use from the stock bike. I have the bike at the height im after, I just cant decide on weather to chop it or cut the springs. The back of the frame will be cut and refabbed as well as the front of the frame to fit the new tank. There is a ton of work ahead.

Heres a pic of the direction I have in mind

If you haven't already head over to the Naked Goldwing Forum (www.ngwclub.com) and they can answer any other questions you may have, and you can get plenty of ideas for your build. Also make sure to visit Randakk's for technical info and invaluable tips. http://www.randakks.com/TechTips.htm#E
Good luck, these are fun bikes to build. :)

I've got plans for one of these as well. Like the low stance you got going on there (and anything with the words naked, and forums in the title)

Both are a little off in the dimensions but you get the idea.
Opinions?

I like the bumstop seat but for a distance bike, you want a seat you can more around and change positions a lot on. I just did 3000+ miles in 5 days on my GL from my house to Mid-Ohio and back and you need to be able to move or you get cramps and "Hot Butt" I like the stance you have so far but if that is you in the pic you look tall. I am 6' and all legs and find the GL foot pegs to be not the best postion so with it lower you may want to look at moving them back some. I would vote for the first seat, but maybe use the factory bolts and make 2, a short distance seat for the twisties and a long distance seat.

Cheers

Well I really like that low slung look. Do you think you can make it work, clearance wise? I hope so because it looks great!

Ground clearance is set at 4". My rat bike sets at the same height and works well. I think I will do a longer bump seat. I am not the gentleman in the picture, I am however the same height (6'2") I however weigh about 70 lbs less so the pegs should be ok. I think I need to heavily modify the wiring to eliminate all of the bull shit Honda packed in there. I just need to spend some time with the wiring diagram to figure out exactly what I can remove to make it simple yet functional. I need to do that before I start cutting the frame. Maybe tomorrow if it rains.........
