Re: KZ440 First build, New paint

I say leave it for now unless it really bothers you. I kept mine because I just like the overall design and colors.

it will do for now

Re: KZ440 First build, New paint

I don't know what design/color scheme you have in mind overall, but I do like it as it is now. Plus, for me, this is one of the better tanks for custom applications...

Re: KZ440 First build, New paint

well i was thinking over winter i will have the tank painted Matt Black,
and then where the white pinstripe is on this tank have the green, i like the shape of the pinstripe and think it would work well with the lines of my tank.

first off i just want to get it running for summer

...it didn't come cheap, did it?

Cool bike. I love the humped tank over the clipons.
What are you doing with the engine? Specs?
And don't you need to brace the frame underneath? Two curved metal pipes just hanging there without any sort of bracing aren't much for rigitity...

The motor has the same specs, was just reconditioned. new pistons, new cam, new cam chain tensioners head plainned, and so on

I dont know what you mean about the bracing? when the motor is mounted the engine bolts act as a bracing, is that what you mean?

Re: KZ440 First build, starting reassembly

The part of the frame going from the steering stem downwards is just two rails (tubes) which then curve backwards. I would think that they would be better braced (reinforced) somehow if any spirited riding is in the bike's future. Just an impulsive thought I made when I saw the bare frame.
Anyhow, the bike looks really cool.

Like i said, there are two engine bolts that go through the front that there'for act as bracing. i havent taken anything away so i dont see this beeing a problem, the bike is a kz440 1981 not a yamaha YZF-R1

Re: KZ440 First build, starting reassembly

Agreed, I would think an engine bolted tight in there would act as a mighty fine brace.

Re: KZ440 First build, starting reassembly

Got the motor back and painted today, not totally sure i like it, what say ya'll?
