SL350 Ride something or another.

whynot

~~~If it ain't raining, I'm riding~~{iii}?~~prost~
Plan was to cut and hardtail.........................
Have had second thoughts, then third, then fourth, and so on.
Hope I've got this thread in the right spot. Just wanted some place to randomly post.
Very tight, tight budget, (none actually), just bits and pieces, scrounging parts.
Well some pictures and thoughts and more thoughts.
Last one has 21 inch wheels front and rear........thinking of having it laced to a rear hub..........thoughts?
The last picture screams early moto with those tires. I dig it. Excited to see where she ends up
if ever was the right frame to make a hardtail from the 350t series, it'd be the sl, so that's my vote ;)
That's where the problems start, no welder, no experience, no money.
'Sides, I have to concentrate on the engine at the moment.
I think I may need a cam and, rockers. Pistons are shot.
Pictures to come.
Choppers suck anyway. You don't want to make that sweet machine a chopper.
Agreed. Who wants a stinky old chopper?
I'm in
Exactly the plan now......you know.....budget and all.....
Well, further inspection of frame yeilded some rather dim results.
Not sure what to do now........thoughts?
Also tried 21 inch wheels front and rear.....but.....
Plus missing some parts on the engine.........
I think the cam has some issues....or maybe not.
Missing a spring for the shift mechanism.
This will not be a long distance rider, just occasional to and fro from work.
There's a guy on the Atlanta Craigslist with 350 engines. Looks like he has 3 or 4 of them. I think he was asking $150 for one with carbs, etc. Might be able to get them cheaper or work out a trade. That was the last SL350 frame I owned. My Desert Sled SL350 is in New Mexico with my daughter in law. She wanted an old Triumph 650, but when I offered the 350 she took it. Free is good when you are young and starting out a new business. When I found the 350 frame you have, I planned to hardtail it. Well, I couldn't bring myself to make the first cut and decided to sell it. Hope it works good for you. The rust on it is likely from cat pee. I got it from a Fireman in Atlanta and he must have been the crazy cat guy. I'd guess he had at least 20 running around his shop.
Hey thanks for the info.
Will check it out.
I'm still considering the hardtail route. I have a friend that runs a business, and used to build frames for race bikes and funny cars.
So getting it welded up right isn't a real problem, just time and money.
