thought i would share this beauty of a "cafe racer" in the local san diego craigslist search. i'm not sure if its a flattering thing for people to use the term "cafe racer" to increase value, or people are just assholes.. i'm thinking the latter.. anyway.. check out this "beauty" 1994 CBR F2 "Cafe Racer"

BTW, I like the Craigslist "Gem" of the week... maybe start one that is a sticky?

OK, I'll play the CL Gem game.

Here's a totally reverse engineered Buell.

Best line from the ad: "This bikes styling and performance puts it squarely in the Cafe Racer style that is currently all the rage."

Yes, the padded passenger backrest and chromed luggage rack put it squarely in the cafe racer style.

:)

I'm going to open myself to some hate here. That Buell chop is not good. Let me start there. It's a waste of a decent kit though. The mutant kit can actually be quite nice. If that's your bag. Personally I think it's a waste of a buell either way, but if I was going to build a Harley based chop I would do a mutant. I think redneck engineering did the original kit. Uses a lot of the stock components. That motor in a lightweight hardtail with the perimeter brakes and the buell front end? Not bad. And the cost of building one of these is very low.

Have you noticed DennisKirk are getting in on the Cafe thing, is that good or bad? I think bad.

Maybe good for parts. Bad for this subculture. Joker machining came from the chopper trend, as did a bunch of others. They may make good parts but they have indentified themselves as bandwagon jumpers in my eyes. But then I'm a bit militant about this stuff too.

The 600's was referring to the 600 lb dudes on mopeds. The track is practically littered with them.

hahaha. I'd love to wager a bet against him... a cbr600 with one of the spark plugs disconnected (essentially running on 3 cylinders) against that xs400... for Pinks. Since he seems so confident...

There is a TON of potential here. Just about everything is there. Just needs tweaked, and some inspired thinking. Yes, Im being serious.

Whats wrong with having a fast chopper? Hardtails can handle and perform just fine if theyre built right. Sure, theyre not an R6, but either are 99% of the "fast" bikes we all build here. Everyone on DTT loves souping up a 40 year old, rickety, spot welded Honda... But a tig welded, computer designed hardtail isnt good enough? Just saying...

Oh god, the insults are endless...
