Good stuff.....it will be worth the wait...

I enjoy tinkering as much as riding so I am not too worried about how long it will take.

Re: "Pistoncino" the Gilera 106Speciale Strada

49 year old engine. No idea when the last time the tappets were checked.
I wasted my time. They are perfect. Love that the tool kit that came with the bike has a tool for undoing the rocker cover bolts.

Then I decided to clean the connectors to the coil. Now no spark. Maybe I broke a wire?
Learning how to set points. I do love old school.

Love how elegant Italian singles look.

Nice Gilera! They're so fun to just Hoon around on. I attached a pic of mine below. It's a 106 with a 124 5v engine, painted and badged to look like a european-market 98ss.

I was wondering if a 124 engine would fit. Now would a 175 fit?

Re: "Pistoncino" the Gilera 106Speciale Strada

The 175 will fit the frame, but I have no clue if it would clear the tank. The larger Gilera motors also won't get you a top speed over 80, they just produce a lot of torque. I prefer the 125cc and under engines because they really like to rev.

Re: "Pistoncino" the Gilera 106Speciale Strada

Had my two mechanic mates Jason and Gray come around and have a look at why Pistoncino is not starting. In my ignorance of points I may have set them so they do not open. Jason fixed that and showed me how to set them. Cheers mate. Bike started and ran off a fuel bottle with clean fuel. Gray wants to take for ride. So we fuel up the so called clean fuel tank. Notice I said so called clean. She would idle just and then in gear and open the throttle dies. We worked out its not getting enough fuel under load. I pulled the carb off. Found the main jet blocked. Found the filter at the inlet to the carb has so many rust particles.

The tank will now not be used till I get its inside treated with a tank liner.

I turn my back for a few minutes and look what they did....

Gray aka "Legoman" with the fuel bottle around his neck.

Time to clean and seal the Gilera 106 tank.

This is what the KBS cleaner has pulled out of the tank. To think I had tried to clean this before without KBS and thought it was clean.

Re: "Pistoncino" the Gilera 106Speciale Strada

The etcher has gone in and out. The different is amazing. Inside looks so clean. I can't believe how much old dried petrol/resin and rust has come out with the KBS cleaner and etcher.

Re: "Pistoncino" the Gilera 106Speciale Strada

I really love this classic bike! NEAT! Never heard of KBS, looks like it cleans shit out of tanks.

After the cleaning and drying the KBS sealer goes in tomorrow.

Re: "Pistoncino" the Gilera 106Speciale Strada

Tank now has a silver lining... KBS Gold Standard Sealer has been applied to inside of tank. Now to wait a week or so before I can put fuel in it.

The Road is calling...
So close to this being back on the road.
Exhaust wrapped the header.
KBS Tank lining has cured.
New small tail light fitted.
Just need to fill my petrol can up and go get some fuel for it.

Two more things to be added/changed soon.

"Pizza Cutter" - Cutting up the tar
It starts.
It goes.
1 up and 3 down on a gear shift that is on the right side makes my brain hurt.
Rode it for about 2 kms today.
Saw 35 miles per hour on the speedo.
It cuts out in top gear. Back into the shed.
So stoked that it is rid-able.
I did not take my camera or phone to record this event. D!OH.
Here is a photo of it from the other day.

So excited that this bike has been picked as one of the bikes to be on display at the 2017 ThrottleRoll Street Party this Easter... http://www.throttleroll.com/streetparty/
