Here's a little update finally got the motor cover's off, damn ! the screws were solid even the impact driver & WD40 struggled to budge em ended up drilling heads off a handful, split them away from motor, cleaned off the old gaskets big job done phew dropped the oil & filter too Gees the oil was so bad on the bottom of the sump cover ? check the picks looks like it was turning to a jelly with a bit of grey colour to it must have got water in ?? at least got to clean inside of covers and the sump cover they came up great and at least the gunk /oil didn't have no metal grittiness to it .Managed to strip n clean the starter motor didn't work when I was getting the bike to run but didn't find anything dodgy inside but cleaned it through anyway will get my tester on it this week fingers crossed it ain't shot . Here's a few pics of what got me in a sweat this weekend .
Must have been with standing for so many years it was all in the bottom of the sump like jelly the oil on top of it was pretty dirty but still flowing ok broke a bit of a sweat tho haha, still got a growing box of parts to polish plus made a start on taking some material and fittings that aren't going to be used of the top triple tree and sanding out the casting marks using clip-ons so the bar holders will be getting ground down too .
Not much for todays efforts managed to finish off cutting slot for rear tail light in my hoop and decided to polish up top covers on the carbs maybe get chance to do the bowls tomorrow every little helps . Pic's as usual to make a little sense of it haha .
little update on todays efforts got the rear drum brake polished up and new shoes fitted and first stage of cleaning up of some more of the covers and just to finish up today cleaned the front sprocket side up and fitted the new front sprocket ( every little helps )here's the usual pics of the efforts of the day haha.
Hi guys been a while not too much to report got a few bits done so here's a little update , masked up the front rotors and brake callipers and painted them (gold) gees its kinda bright but different haha.
Got the rear wheel spacers turned on the mini lathe another tick off the list also got a new old stock rear sprocket but the casting was real rough so decided to de-burr and sand down both sides then what the hell I polished it up ( glad I did it looks 100% better . Still got to finish the positioning of exhausts then motor can come out so here's the usual job lot of pics to make sense of it all .
Got a feeling the disc's n callipers might get a colour change yet turned out a little too bright , got a little trigger happy with the spray gun cos the sun came out haha 8)
Sorry i haven't updated for a while but guys n gals I could do with a few good thoughts n prayers 2 weeks last Friday my wife had a sub arachnoid haemorrhage against her brain stem , she is still in neurosurgical intensive care (thank god for the NHS ) once she stabilise her vital signs and can breath for herself they will operate to remove it but as the surgeons say " its life changing !
I am gutted and feel so sorry for her she only just retired from 38 years as high school teacher / assistant head teacher so things may run a little slow people but heres to a happy and successful recovery, I loves me bikes n builds : but I loves me wife more :-*
Cheers guys, got everything crossed yozzer mate doctors feel positive about her , she is in the best place and she's getting the best treatment for a good recovery.
Just need her back so she can give me earache about how much mess i'me making and spending on projects haha
Hi guys well its been a while and a lot has happened in the last 8 weeks I guess you can say positive too the missus is now off all ventilators and is breathing for herself she is talking she is trying to walk with the aid of the physio's she got control of most functions but cant swallow so is still fed thru a nose tube but its all positive had her out & about in a wheelchair which she loved on the sunny rooftop garden.
Haven't felt like posting here for a while or even going in the workshop but I guess the tragic & untimely passing of Nicky Haydon made me thankful for what I have ime so sorry for his family I felt a similar pain when in neuro intensive care so spare a thought for all his family .
Here's a couple of pics how far the missus has come still a ways to go but feel positive we'll get there and have her looking like the last pic last year on holiday
Glad to see things are improving - keep us posted and pass along our best wishes and thoughts to your wife. She's clearly strong and is likely motivated to get back to keeping you on your toes
