CB650 bratstyle a little more done, more to do.

rays650cafe

No quarter given, none taken.
Got more done today on the scoot, mounted new tires, blacked out the wheels. Gonna start clean-up/ painting of the frame. I should say patch painting for now weathers gettin way too nice. Have to build and mount seat,taillights/turn signals and license plate. May lower the forks some more not sure yet. Any critiques comments let me know. First build don't want to screw it up so badly I can't fix it. Thanks

Re: CB650 bratstyle

I took the springs out when I was resealing the forks cut 2.5 in out of the springs. Replace whatever out cutout of the springs with shims on the dampener above the spring. Make sure they're the exact same length. If I'm being unclear, I'm sure you can search for a diagram on this site with instructions. Hope this helps.

Re: CB650 bratstyle

Got the seat pan mounted, ready for foam. Gonna use the kids old playmat, then cover with black(?) vinyl. Ordered taillights, turn signals, black lt.weight head light ears. Paint the headlight bucket black. Mount lights and licence plate, I'll call it done for now. Then onto exhaust, gauges, headgasket, clutch kit,.......blah,blah,blah. Fuck it it'll never be done that's cool.

Re: CB650 bratstyle

Hey your Brat is coming out awesome. How was the ride when you lowered your forks. I wanna lower my knuckle Duster (CB650c) but I'm not sure of the whole rake and trail concept as I'm new to the whole mod scene. I am strongly considering blacking out my wheels after seeing how yours came out. Any more progress?

Re: CB650 bratstyle

also I see you removed some
of your muffler how did that effect your tuning.

Re: CB650 bratstyle

I havent seen that move on the seat pan. I assume you heated it with a torch until it conformed? Very clever!

Re: CB650 bratstyle

The seat pan is the food grade plastic they put in the back of semi trailers that haul peas, carrots, corn, etc. Once I cut the shape I need, I heat it w/ a heat gun to the shape I want. When it cools, its considerably stiffer than original, w/o being overly brittle. A really lucky find. And thanks Marla.

Brilliant! I will definitely keep this one in the back pocket for next time.

Re: CB650 bratstyle

Putting the foam on,I'm using the kids old playmat. Gorilla glue is pretty awesome stuff! I think i'll recycle the cover from my old seat.Too bad, just had the stocker re-done last year. Oh well, not like its gonna fit now. Check my clamp system! Getto, but works! Plus some pics I found of the early mock-up phase.

PS Do not use playmat with Gorilla Glue! Seems to turn into plywood when done. Learn from my mistake.

Re: CB650 bratstyle

I think that's all the padding i want on this seat. I not a really big dude, about 5'11/180 lbs and this high density foam felt pretty decent on the short ride around the hood. I'am going to make another seat that's longer/thicker so I can take the kids on some rides. Also, with a 3.5 gal tank It's not like I don't get off and stretch every so often. Hopefully, the taillights/turnsignals get here soon. Maybe post somepics with vinyl on the seat tomorrow! Have a good weekend all!

Re: CB650 bratstyle

Well, got the vinyl from the old seat on.Not the best, but it'll do. I need to go to Wenatchee to get some that's a bit thinner. This stuff is from the original seat that I had recoverd a year or two ago. It was the really good padded vinyl.Oh well,I can work with it some more improving as I go.By the way, the stuff that I used for the seat pan, staples really nicely. pretty stoked, first seat from scratch. Also found some pics of the bike after the rebuild from going over the handlebars.

Re: CB650 bratstyle

Which lights? The HD bullets I just put on mine would look good on yours too I think.
