The SkyTeam 'Ace' Resource

Any thoughts on my questions anyone?

Having never done a valve adjustment before. it took me a while today, I won't say how long. But like everyone else says, will be much quicker next time. I am at 800kms and there was no gap at all, adding to the evidence that the factory seem to ship these with no gap.

Really surprised by how a little turn made a big difference in the gap. It made it a lot easier when I found a square headed screw to hold the top of the adjuster while tightening the lock nut. Before I do it next time I will bend that screw, a third of the way down at 90 degrees, so I can see how much of a turn I am doing.

Kept getting either nothing .04 or .08. Couldn't settle on the the .05. In the end I have firm 0.05 on inlet and slightly looser .05 on exhaust. Can't get 0.06 in to either of them. Measuring by pulling on the rocker so that the gap is maximised.

Am I measuring correctly?
Are the gaps close enough or do they need to both be absolutely bang on?
What difference should I notice in running, performance now that the gaps are right?

Hey everyone,

I'm new here, I just bought my ace yesterday and am picking it up tomorrow!
The shop I bought it from had a 1997 Honda Dream CB50V up on a stand, what a beauty!

Quick question, has anyone ever used the rear disc brake assembly from the Dream 50 on the Ace?

Welcome to DTT!

Where did you see the Dream? I am fairly sure no one has done the conversion - maybe they found the price a bit off-putting!

Thanks Crazy,

I live in Perth Aus, the shop is called In City Motorcycles in Vic park. Think the owners name is Mark, really nice to chat to.

The dream has never even been ridden! He bought it at a motor show in Japan when it was released.

I saw a Dream in a classic bike mag this month for sale at 6000 EURO!!!!

It was brand new but someone's made a tidy profit

Hi 2b, I've worked on M/C's for over 30 years, and as the CG125's has valve clearance's of 2 thou inlet and 4 thou exhaust, this is what I set my Ace at and it runs fine, no rattles and revs till the H/bars make your fingers tingle.

There are quite a few Dreams for sale in the UK - all over £6k

Thanks Tad, Just under 200k to go until 1,000k so will change to 2 and 4 then when I do other general maintenance. It won't take long at all, now I know how.

I've read that having the gap right ensures valves close fully at the right time. And have seen that it seems to rev freer with the 2 thou gaps compared to having no gaps at all. Are there other benefits of getting the gaps right?

Cheers
Richard

Skyteam ace 125 manual says .05mm I think .08 is for a true cg125 engine?

Yes you are correct, that is the setting for the CG. I set my Lifan clone CG to this and it runs lovely, I was unaware that the setting would be different. I'll try the 2 and 4 thou gaps next time I service it.

Saw this. Maybe someone might want to step up and do a 250 upgrade. To a CBR250RR motor with a 20k redline that is.. ::)

I've been digging for more information pertaining to the transplants and reproduction and have found some from jap pages.

The CM/CD 125/ 185/200/250 twin (Rebel) lump will work in the CB/CG 125 frame, but I don't know if the exhausts would foul on the ACE frame. Should be OK.

I think most of us have had thoughts about putting something wild in the 'Ace'.
In my case it was going to be a dirt-bike two-stroke single. On a re-think I decided to stick with the CG clone. It's damn near bullet-proof, needs minimal maintenance, and is easy to work on. With a few tweaks it will do 120k/h, and you can spend your time riding not in the workshop!

Hi all, Does anyone know the colour code for the Skyteam Ace 125/50 fuel tank and side panels.
Yours hopefully, Tad.
