1981 Yamaha XS 400 Special II Cafe Racer build

With the big tires and longer shocks I had to lengthen my kickstand. I added 3 inches and it probably could have used another inch or so. Took a couple better pics of the bike, its all ready for the painted tank / seat. Hopefully my intake will be here at the end of the week too.

Your bike is looking great! love the exhaust and the beefy tires. I used your idea for my build. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=32151.150 Our bikes may be very different but they have the same power plant. I cant wait to see how your bike turns out. Good luck. Ps I want to hear a video of that beast running!

Please excuse the large amount of pics to follow :) got the tank and seat back from paint, man its looking so good. Cant wait for my intake so I can get this thing running again !

Changed the speedo placement yet again after lowering the headlight. Had to hack up the speedo mount for a third time. I think I have it where I want it finally. Also shortened the kick starter to fit the pipes.

Nice looking bike, man! Just finished reading from the start.

In the picture of the shortened kick starter the rubber looks awfully close to the exhaust, would it possibly melt it?

Definitely very possible that it will Melt :) Only time will tell. Also I more than likely will have to wrap the exhaust since my legs are going to be so close to the exhaust. Waiting for a test run to see how hot it is.

Verry nice work! Quick question: Is that the stock rear rim, if so, what's the width? I'm buildin a CB400f and have a 16x 2.15 froma rebel I think? Would love to run those tires, but thought they would be too wide? Thanks for the help...

I dont know what the width is on my wheel... It is the stock wheel off a 1981 Yamaha XS400. It is running the firestone 500-16 (equivalent to a 130/90 - 16) which is all you can fit, it is very tight. The local shop said it was difficult to get seated on the rim and is definitely the biggest tire I could fit on there.

Finally got my intake. Got it hooked up and fuel lines ran tonight. If my oil strainer cover gasket shows up tomorrow I just might have it running !
