clear powder over polished metal?

Been Around the Block
I'm polishing up my rims and engine cases to a near mirror finish. I would like to find some coating that sustains it and prevents rust without having to rebuff and wax a lot. I've heard about putting a clear powdercoat over polished surfaces? Has anyone tried this? Are you happy with the results?

I do it all the time. The only problem with it is that residue from polishing can cause outgassing and bubbles in the clear powdercoat. I have learned to clean VERY well with acetone, pre-bake the pieces being coated, and then when I cure the clear powdercoat, I start it at lower temperature, and gradually increase the temperature up to the cure temp.

use an accrilic clear powder it is formulated for polished metal... here are some parts we have polished and cleared
