Last year I was on my way home and the bike started smoking alot. I noticed that the smoke was primarily coming from the rectifier/regulator area. I immediately lost all electronic power. Here would be the cause of that smoke.

You let the blue smoke out.  They never work after that.  A had the same thing with a brand new DYNA pickup recently. Puff of blue smoke and when it was gone, no more spark.  Funny how that works :-)
