HELP - Handlebar controls broken

I need some advise to fix my handlebar controls...

When putting the original controls (right side) back on my bike, I tightened the screw to hard and it cracked. Now it is not possible to tighten them at all.
Is there any way of fixing this without having to buy new controls?

Thanks for any tips & tricks

Did the actual control housing crack, as in a visible crack on the outside? If so you might need to look for a replacement.

If the threads are stripped, you can tap it to the next size up (there is usually a SAE tap size that will be slightly larger than the metric threads) and use a SAE screw in place of the original.

Yes, there is a crack in the housing. So I guess this can't be fixed :'(

I'm sure it can be fixed. Welding it is your best option, but some JB weld might hold up for a little while with proper prep.

Its probably just cheaper and easier in the long run to buy a replacement.

BFL: what kind of bike is this on? As mentioned, there's a distinct possibility that someone here has a spare bit they'd let you have for dirty cheap (or less)

As an interim fix, I'd fill the hole with 5-minute epoxy (or JB Weld as mentioned if it's metal) and then drill/tap the hole to hold it together u til a replacement can be found.
