question about handle bars?

I have a 78 GS550. I'm currently using clubmans. I'm looking to change them because. Well... They suck. I was thinking of dropping the forks through the triple tree and clamping clip on's on top. I have a set of fully adjustable low rise Tarozzini on order. I normally see people with clip ons below the triple tree. Is it safe to have them above? I'm thinking that this set up might help for a slightly more comfortable ride.

You can put the clip ons wherever you want them, but raising the forks in the clamp by the 50mm or whatever it takes to make them fit is going to radically change the geometry of the bike.

I'd buy some with more rise, and clamp them under the tree.

As Desmo said, dropping the front end is going to dick with the geo.

As well as altering the geometry (which may actually be what you want in some cases) you want to be sure that moving the fork tubes up in the trees won't result in any parts slamming into each other when you hit a bump.
