Another 750 Four.

I sold my Suzuki GS 2 years ago to buy a 67 Triumph spitfire. As great as that thing was to look at, there was just no pleasure in driving it. It had to go. Thankfully, that made my budget for a 1975 CB750, which I've been pining after for years, but have always been reluctant to pull the trigger.

She has sat in the garage for a week while I pondered my vision for the build and compiled by inspiration bikes in my favorites tabs, but as of today I have a frame and motor (until I get assistance pulling the motor out).

Started welding excess tabs and cleaning up the frame. Waiting for my seat to arrive to determine if any frame mods are needed before sending it to the powder coater. I'm trying to determine what electronics I can eliminate. I'm trying to run as lean as possible (while staying legal) but I think I underestimated the space for my electronics when pulling the trigger on the tray from cognitomoto.

So what can I eliminate/replace/streamline?

The speaker wire?

Seriously though, do you have any automotive electrical experience? If no, I stronly suggest you save the money and buy a harness from here: http://www.sparckmoto.com/ and contact the owner and fellow DTT member here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7790 .

You can slim things down and mounting things under the Moto box like the starter solenoid, reg/rec etc...

Impressive, huh? Unfortunately, the turn signals weren't producing great sound quality, so the speaker wire has to go.

I had already planned to buy a new harness, but if I can get one that's already trimmed down I may be better off.

Yup, shoot Sonreir a message and he'll put a harness together for your specific bike and needs

Thanks for the feedback. New Harness and R/R on order from Sparck Moto, though I'm looking at about 5 weeks before it's ready. Still waiting on my seat from DCC so I can make any frame modifications before sending to the powder coater. I don't anticipate needing any other frame mods with my bolt on oil tank and rearset brackets from Cognitomoto. Engine is getting sent off this weekend for a rebuild, so I'm looking at about a month before I can begin assembly. In the meantime, I have plenty of crap to polish, and even more crap to buy.

So, either I'm really terrible at "Googling" or what I'm looking for just does not exist. I removed the crash bars from the frame. The right side bars were acting as the right front motor mount, and I obviously don't want to leave these on. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement mounting bracket without having to chop and fab the one from the crash bar?

*Progress report*
Engine is out and going away for a while to be rebuilt. If I hope to have her on the road by the summer, I have no time to bumble through the engine work. And I just plain don't trust myself, so I'll leave it to an expert.

Mocked up the seat to make sure no "serious" frame modifications would be necessary. Started grinding some excess waste off the frame. Neighbors gave me looks, so I closed the garage door. Wife didn't like the smell, so I quit... for today.
I just can't win.

Really dig the paint scheme... You and I both need to find a painter that can run a tape line without needing a bump... If you know what uh mean

I'm still a little torn on the paint scheme. I'm leaning towards Flake Sunrise Orange in an attempt to try to keep something on this bike original.

Also thinking about how to clean up that back end. Considering grinding off the stock shock mounts and ending the frame at the top of the triangle. 2 things to consider...
1- What decent options are there for weld-on shock mounts?
2- Would I need to brace the corners at the back of the frame. If you know these 750s, there is a brace that runs across about 6 inches from the end of the frame.

Other option is filling the gaps from the ground down tabs with some filler. I plan to use the open frame to insert bar end turn signals.

Any thoughts? I was hoping to go weld-free, but I also want to do it right.

You need to leave them on and it will look fine once the shocks are back on.

You could look for some piggyback gas shocks (stay away from cheap) to hide the cut section and cap the back... or you could run a radius cut line 1/2" behind the welds, cut them matching both sides nice then weld in flat stock... no need to shape it, just over cut the piece and weld it starting with the top or bottom then once tacked bend it around the radius tack welding as you go, then grind off the excess then weld it and finish it with a flap wheel(s)

Came home to 5 packages on my doorstep. Santa was good to me.
