Triumph 500... Need some advice

Hey guys, sorry to post a "How much is it worth" thread, but I need some help.
I went to check out a 1969 500 trophy today and need some help to determine cost. The bike runs and rides good, but is lacking in the visual department. Can any triumph experts tell me what is not stock/what is missing. A good approximation of a price would be a huge help. Thanks!

I think that bike looks delicious. I'd restore that baby it looks to be in good enough shape to do it. I love brit bikes though.

Thanks for the reply. The bike looks good to me too. I am guessing the value at around 4,000 since it appears stock to me, it runs and has a good title. Does this seem reasonable?

IDK...In los angles, its getting really hard to find quality early 70's, 60's and late 50's triumph's. Some that i found around about this price. If it runs solid with little issues, might be worth the 4k. But thats just me

Trophy 500, looks good. I think $4k is high for a 500 cc Triumph. The speedo is still a Smiths but not the correct 1960's grey face but rather for a 1970's Triumph black face. Is it titled? Matching frame and engine numbers? Anything else come with it?

Here is the 1969 Triumph catalog: http://www.classicbike.biz/triumph/Brochures/1960s/69All-Models.pdf

Good luck and do not hack it up.

Thanks Swan,

The bike has a clean and clear title, and is running and riding pretty smoothly.
I wrote down the frame and case numbers, where should i go to check if they match?
I recoded the engine correctly, but the frame number has me confused...

Frame: 82 7567
Engine: EC 18802

Do these numbers look about right?
Thanks again

squirley,
Your engine number is correct (May of 1969), but the frame number appears to be casting number and not a serial number. Look on the headstock for the stamped frame serial number which should match the motor. Non-matching Triumph motors and frames are worth much less (but still fun to ride) and can be a nightmare to title and register with the DMV depending on your state's laws.

Thanks Swan,
after a little research, i found that they should match. I will take another look for the frame number soon. Out of instinct I just went right to the right side head tube for the number...
The bike is titled and ready to go, so all should be ok.

The seller does not have a price. He saw that I had a jeep for sale on craigslist and purposed some type of trade...
In the central/so cal areas, from what I have found these go for about 3 to 4k.
