1980 Yamaha SR250 - A Tracker named Mexico

nice job man. I had to retry about 5 times when I laced my wheels until I got the start and pattern right. Still have to touch up the scratches I made in the process. >(

Are you having someone else true them or are you doing it yourself?

Cheers. I'm going to have a go at trueing them myself using and old swing arm and a pointer. If I can't manage it I know a guy who builds wheels. I'll post some before and after pics of the wheels when I get the new tyres fitted, hopefully by Monday.

Hey Steve

It's probably a little late now, but there is a flat option of these battery's available that I'm going to use in my sr250.

Have a look here (four cell)

http://antigravitybatteries.com/?page_id=994

i found a good option.. you can get lipo4 cell packs on eBay... and other suppliers... do a Google for >
"123A lipo4 4s1p" 123a is the battery type, lipo is the make, 4s refers to the number of cells, 1p refers top parallel wiring . tiny tiny batteries that come in at 13.5 volts....

Finished lacing my powder coated wheels with new stainless spokes today, and I'm very happy with them. You can see from the pic below that I used my old swingarm and a pencil to get them true. It takes a while, but it saved me £80 and I have the satisfaction of knowing I did it myself. I'll be getting the tubes and tyres fitted tomorrow.

Here are my wheels with their new shoes on, and I think they look great. Well chuffed. Also, here is a pic of my new seat and speedo that arrived today:

Primed the last of my bits and bobs. I'm spraying the swingarm rather than powder coating as the bushes are in good condition and I didn't want to knacker them by taking them out. Just waiting for my new swingarm bolt to arrive from Holland and I can start the rebuild.

Are you doing the orange/black? I really love that combo.

Great work so far.

Yeah, I'm having the tank and rear mudguard orange with matching black stripes down the middle. Thanks for the visit.

Thanks for the comments, I'm hoping to get the forks and wheels on this weekend. Can't wait to have a roller again. The new seat is for a SR500 so I've got to chop about a foot off the back end to get it to fit, I may get the local fabricators to knock me up a loop to tidy it up.

stoked to have my bike featured in the inspiration section. great build man, keep it coming. tip of the ol' hat to you!

Nice build so Far! lots of progression.... I like .... I actually just Picked up my Own SR250 a couple weeks ago....

Yeah, these SR250s are becoming very popular as project bikes. They are fantastic if you want to make something that looks like an old classic - spoke wheels, twin shocks, drum brakes and a simple 4 stroke, air cooled single cylinder engine. I can't wait to get mine finished, it will be the bike I've always wanted. Be warned, if your bike is as old as mine, the swingarm bolt and centre stand pivot are real bastards to get out. Enjoy your new project, I'll be following it when you start.

Sweet... Its gonna be awhile tho a few bikes have skipped it in line already .....the piston seems stuck on my SR hoping to find a simple solution for that (may weld a broken spark plug to a grease gun and hydraulic it free Not sure yet)

Been a little while, but I've been plodding away on the bike. Got the forks rebuilt and polished, front wheel on, speedo on and the centre stand. I also put the new seat and old tank on loose just to see what it looked like. The back of the seat will sit lower when I've chopped a bit more of the rear frame off (and fiited a loop) the tank still needs stripping and painting. The tank will be orange with black stripes down the centre.
