Oh no, not another Virago....WTF? Maybe it's a scrambler now?

]Today we got home from Florida, and I had presents! Tested the front end out, the brakes work, I'll need to create some spacers to center the wheel in the FZR forks

Things seem to be progressing well. Engine is reassembled, the valves were crazy tight, that could have had something to do with the poor starting habits it had.

The standard Virago rectangle peg mounts are gone!

Thanks! I'm trying to make this a detail oriented build and not just throw it together. I'll need to get some nicer hardware for some of the fasteners.

I really like that you've taken a ridiculed model and turning it into a detailed scrambler. Your swinging from 16 to 19 front is hilarious....I like the rugged 16 but the 19 spoked wheels rock....hmmm??

The devil's in the detail as they say....keep going fella.

Thanks, I'm thinking I'll be making it so the front ends can switch, or at the very least I'm going to make the wheel work with this front end. Then I can switch the look whenever I want.

I've put it back together, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to do some welding on the frame, so tearing it apart again is probably in my future!

Messing around with the R/R, here is ok, I'd rather hide it under the tank, but I'm a bit worried about airflow and cooling under there.

Paint it matt black and grind the fin tips back to show the alloy....then do the engine heads to match, job jobbed :)

The R/R on my CBX was mounted under the tank from factory.

I'll mess with the stock regulator, this is a new, updated stock replacement, so I can use my lithium battery.

Yesterday I finished up the side covers and the second gen starting system.

I polished up the intake elbow covers:

Then I threw it together, taped up the subframe, poorly sprayed a coat of duplicolor peel wrap (super crappy Plastidip) to see if I want Orange, or the stock tank even.

After looking at it, I know I don't want the stock tank shape, but I have it, I like the upper shape. I'm thinking maybe some two tone might hide the curves I don't care for...

That's what I'm going to try to do!

Neat zorst....just about short enough IMO.

Maybe a few inches shorter would look even better? If the silencer was tucked under the line of the swingarm and just behind the footrest bracket it'd look tighter? Could it be done to both sides?

Thanks, this is off the shelf, and if I go making anything it will be a higher exhaust, more fitting for a scrambler. Right now it's just kind of sitting there, so I'm not sure that is the correct position. And it's only on the one side, it's a 2-1 exhaust.

Did the bike drop with the fork conversion?

Not that I can tell. The forks are just a little shorter, but because it's not a leading axle, and I'm going to be putting actual handlebars on it instead of OEM clipons, it's right about at the same height. I forgot to measure the clearance before I tore the thing apart. It's probably slightly higher because of the much larger tires.

Ah, so an up and over stylee. The rightside would loop up over the side casing with a few cuts, will the otherside run under (by the swingarm pivot area) and over to link with the silencer on the rightside? Trickier, I reckon but could look sweet.

Will you take this off road much?

I don't know how I would do it, that's why I bought one! I highly doubt I'll be of road at all honestly. With only a couple inches of travel, it won't be very nice. I have a KLR and a Super Ténéré for that!

Today I loaded up the bike and my buddy did some work for me.

Just a little bit of progress before I had to leave for Mexico.

I mounted up the M-Unit,

Test fit the battery and battery box

I also updated my shed lighting, wow, it's almost too bright in there now!

Tested the starting circuit, wired up the TCI, and rebuilt the stock petcock. I just need to get the new coils in, and hopefully fire it up!

I found my new helmet...

And did some organizing around the house because it's been too dang cold and my heat in the shed can't keep up.

And now that the temp has gone back up, organized my wires so I can start wiring up the bike!

I'm just searching for an "iron jaw" type guard and I'm good.
