CB360's-from build to blog - 2013, MDS (Mo Dumb Shit)

Just been reading some Stephen Hawking quotes, liked this one in particular

I was literally just doing the same exact thing.

I found this one from his AMA on Reddit:
"Everyone can enjoy a life of luxurious leisure if the machine-produced wealth is shared, or most people can end up miserably poor if the machine-owners successfully lobby against wealth redistribution."

Just edited to add some more. Got to be 50+ years worth of notable quotes from him
You may like this one (or are you reading the same C-Net article?)
"I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image."

At present, 'machine owners' are 'winning'

Not sure how many people read this but I have to change my recommendation on JBM diaphragms.
I do a LOT of CB360 carbs, several CB350 carbs and a few CB450 carbs (solid piston so no diaphragms)
Anyway, long and short of it.
Problem with new diaphragm, guarantee 30 days even if it wasn't fitted to slide.
I machine the step off slide as I heard a few people had diaphragms split and it was 'accepted' as due to bad fitting procedure. I know how to fit these things, no idea how many I've used over the years (at least several dozen, maybe more?)
Contacted Paul at JBM, sent pictures of a pretty strange failure (split top and bottom at centre donut but not all the way through?) Initially very abrupt, calmed down and checked name/address I gave him ( by accident the wrong one)
Seems 30 days is as long as they last though so I can't recommend them any longer. The slides never got fitted into carb bodies, sitting on desk for about 10 days after fitting, no where near window and office not used much maybe 2~3 hrs, 3~4 times a week so not a UV or chemical issue
Genuine Honda are crazy expensive but you will get a better guarantee - many of te original 1974 diaphragms are still working fine so obviously better quality

JBM relies on the mold to heat the rubber. They use uncured rubber sheet that they cut up into chunks and fill the molds. I wonder if they're getting flow marks or back-rinding from not working with ground rubber.

Interesting.
That probably explains why the 'thick' section split from top down and bottom up but doesn't 'meet in the middle'
It would make more sense to explain to people that the diaphragms have a 'shelf life' of 'X' hours after fitting and need a temperature 'set' when in place? I used to fit all carbs to my 378 to check they worked as expected but for various reasons stopped doing it. May be why I never used to have problems with JBM diaphragms? It would be dead easy to heat to around 210f for a minute or two so they could conform to slide if thats all that was needed?
Of course, it's much easier to say SOL, buy some more but without knowing why the original failed that ain't going to happen (plus, I think it should be a warranty 'faulty part')
I'm not te only person who has had issues with JBM guarantee process though which is why I can't recommend them any longer and won't be using them again.
As Bush junior said, fool me once shame on you wtf comes next? ;D

After a week of sitting on bench I finally tried to fit battery to Katana. I got he wrong one - its for 1997, so doesn't fit. About 3/8" too long on the long side. FUCK.
Oh well, it will work on 360 as I intended to re-locate a physically larger 8A/Hr under swing arm (the 'cap pack' is going on 'Blue bike' with maybe a 4A/Hr, depending on how well lights, indicators, etc work))

do your bikes have stock charging system?

I only ever change the reg/rect for a more modern one, often it's used one from 1990's~early 2000's. I haven't had any of the charging issues that seem 'common' to other people so haven't bothered to fit different stators or rotors although I am thinking about drilling a rotor and fitting some neodymium magnets to get higher output

Got proper battery for a 1995 Katana Saturday, filled it up, let it stand then put it on charge.
Couldn't do much of anything all weekend, Jaxon's 'other' grandparents' didn't pick him up Sunday (they only have him about 60~90 minutes)
Anyway, yesterday got to go for a 'proper' ride for first time in about a year.
Didn't go far but rush hour traffic always makes things 'more interesting'
Almost got taken out by an older JEEP (square body, 4 door) changing lanesbut I kinda 'spotted' him so accelerated out the way.
Playing 'fast and loose' at up to 80mph (in 40 limit) in traffic back and forth across 3~4 lanes to stay in the gaps was something I really needed
Only about 11 miles total, maybe 20 minutes but it was something I really needed.

Having a pretty bad day today, yesterday wasn't a whole lot better (Windoze update 'killed' wifes computer ::) )
Ever since truck went in for new air bag inflators it's been 'different'
Every time Ive taken it into dealers (not very often, even first service' was 'traumatic') the damn thing has come out 'worse' (but cleaner) than when it went in
Truck has been throwing codes for a few weeks but intermittent and doing a quick reset seemed to have fixed things (while I'm waiting for parts)
Well, this morning taking Jaxon to daycare it went onto two cylinders(maybe?) then cut out. It re-started and idled OK but wouldn't go over 1500 rpm
Holding pedal down it eventually 'cleared and ran REALLY well as long as I stayed over 4K
Managed to get to daycare, Jaxon was only about 10 ins later than normal
Damn truck ran like shit for about 2 miles then stopped (in middle of road works, on a bridge over I-4) Lucky for me it was 4 lane reduced to two lane so I pulled over and let it cool down a bit. Two guys in hard hats started coming over but when I said "i'm not parking, I'm breaking down" they went back to whatever
I ended up getting another 3/4 mile to a proper parking lot and walked last 3 miles home (no fun in 80 degree's) 2-1/2 hrs for a 30 min total trip sucked (plus I was probably overheated and dehydrated)
About 2hrs later I cycled back and JUST managed to coax it home (was OK except last 1/2 mile)
It's now on ramps outside garage, cat way btoo hot to mess with O2 sensors but air control valve is changed.
Hjopefully tomorrow I'll beable to get both O2 sensors changed and things will be back to normal?
It did give an injector code but hopefully it's because of O2 sensors.?
Anyway, what all this rambling means, I can't work on carbs, pistons or parts until I have transport fixed. Sorry for extra delay

Been a week, truck is running better but far from perfect (well, it does have abouyt 107,000 on 2.3 engine)
Anyway, back to 'normal'
Been working on quite a few CB360 carbs last several weeks (months) haven't had an 'easy' set fort a long time, some sort of issue always comes up. Latest, some idiot used Hondabond (or 3-Bond?) to glue carbs together.
Making life very difficult, plus,it's a real PITA to get cleaned off all the 'gasket' surfaces
Just had to pry float bowl off, taking tops off may have damaged a diaphragm (it's broken so doesn't really matter how it happened)
Here's left carb gasket face

The pair Im currently running.

Guy didn't bother w bowl gaskets at all...just globbed blue silicone.

Didn't hold up to the ethonol.

Every single surface was coated w a melted sticky blue powdery film on the innards. UGH.

No idea about You Tube, I already know this stuff so don't watch bike 'How To' vids.
I have looked at a couple of Jeep transmission video's, didn't really tell me much though, mainly 'it's too complicated, take it to a specialist' BS and of course, the latest is O2 sensors ::)
The majority of sites seemt o have people who 's idea of DIY is paying someone to do stuff while they watch.
I joined Pontiac Firebird forum, the ijits there though the Pontiac 389, 400, 454, etc. had 100% VE so I gave up pretty quick(it's closer to 60% on a good day at lowish rpm)

OMG

Just watched about half of first carb video. No wonder I'm getting so many messed up carbs if people are following it.

I guess I'm going to have to make a video to correct the misinformation. Most of what I saw wasn't too bad, except the primary and secondary main jets are backwards, the 'discharge nozzle' is needle jet and secondary discharge nozzle is really primary discharge.. I stopped when I saw how he was doing float levels, that's just wrong for so many reasons

HAHA post the link, dag nabbit.

LOL, I couldn't watch all of part 3 and ended up watching crazy Russian use self tapping screws to create 'race' tyres for ice racing. Worked really well ;D 8)
I'll look it up again.
Only signed in and commented on second video
