We picked up a pair of Bultaco Montaderos “Mountain” after walking into our local bone yard.
Mine was a mutt and has a Bandido b61 frame and early Montadero M51 engine. It is 360cc’s and came with no expansion chamber. We restored it to this condition.

It shifts and brakes on the wrong side and likes to go backwards. Hey it’s a Bultaco!

This evolution started with my son Zeke telling me I couldn’t build a Drag bike out of a dirt bike in a month. We raced the Bultaco as a dirt bike the previous year, dirt tires and all, on the drag strip at an event called The Twist Off. The fastest it had gone was 12.4 seconds in the 1/8th mile.
I took Zeke’s challenge and he was kind enough to lend a hand.
We removed the existing swing and and made a new extended one.
Zeke tacked it up and then he made me finish welding it.
Because of time we made one engine modification lightening the flywheel. Other than that it remained the same as last year.
Used internal spacers to lower the front end
Made rear pegs
Made a set of wheelie bars
Air shifter
Steering dampener
Clip on and tires we were off to the races!
Then we went out racing The Twist Off!

We shaved 2 seconds off our our previous 1/8 mile and did 10.4 in the 1/8 mile. I raced Zeke on his Ducati 900 ss and beat me with a 9.6.
There is always next year...
